Hey all,
I have a problem. My Digitally converted 3099 steam loco is running oddly. At low speeds it runs fine, but once it passes about halfway it get jerky. This has been happening for a while, but just today the engine makes a screeching noise when it is run over about half speed. The engine sounds like it is slipping or something, but I don't see how this is possible. I can't see anything that looks damaged and I checked the motor brushes, they are okay. Any ideas?? Thankyou, Dimi

Hi Dimi,

Your loco needs servicing! It needs a drop of oil on the gears and each end of the motor armature, as per the marklin instructions.
Once you do this the problem should go awayCool

Mike.

Mike is absolutely right. This is classic behaviour from a Marklin DCM motor. A drop of oil on each of the motor bearings is all that is needed.

I excperienced some of the same symptoms on one of my locos after conversion.

I used the conversion set Märklin 60901. Oil did not help. I had to replace the motor cover, or brush holder if you like.
It seems like the rotor was not perfectly centered, or the bearing "hole" was too big, so the rotor started to vibrate at certain speeds.
