As I've mentioned before, the latest generation 4 decoders have the Lenz railplus protocol build in. (by the way Zimo is using it as well but apparently without the consent of the owner)
It is more or less the same system as the MFX or M4 the difference is it is an open protocol and all CV's are reachable.

Furthermore, the difference between the previous M4 and the Märklin MFX is, the loco identifies it self and asks the question, do you want an automatic address or would you like your own address.
Say for instance you type in 500, the address will than be 500.
You than read the decoder on your lok programmer it still shows the address as 3(interesting).
The moment the loco is registered with the ECoS, even if you take it off the track it doesn't have to re-register again.

Another point I like to make, if you program the loco on your lok programmer 4.1 e.g. to this address, the ECoS will not recognize the loco

regards.,

John

Hi all,

Other possibilities with an Version 4 ESU decoder.

Lights: Output: there are many options to have your headlights and marker lights programmed to your satisfaction, e.g. consists, high beam - low beam.
digital uncouplers: pulse time regulated
Fir box light and many more functions to change your light configuration., e.g. dimmer, fade out, brightness and a dozen or so different light effects.

Lights mapping: here you can change or add functions to your lights or function setting.

Gearlight: program it, so it is turned on while the loco is at a standstill and will go off when loco is moving, same applies to your fire box light or interior cab light.

With a 21 pin adapter plate you also have the opportunity to program your Function 3 & 4 independently giving you 4 function outlets.
for instance:

Aux 1 = Smoke gnerator
Aux 2 = digital uncoupler (Telex coupling) with time out function (front)
Aux 3 = as above (rear) or fire box
Aux 4 = Gear light & Interior cab light connected together with light diminishing when loco is in motion.

Speed curve: measured in km/h

other improvements and new functions have been implemented and the findings will be published in due course.

regards.,

John

Interesting that there is no (as yet) m4/mfx version of the Loksound 4. While I have an Ecos, and can therefore make use of Railcom, I also have a CS1 and a CS2. Which means that the Marklin controllers will have to use the MM protocol to control Loksound 4 equipped locos, and only have access to 4 plus 4 functions (assuming the 2nd address is programmed in CV75). Bummer!

From the ESU website

"LokPilot V4.0
The LokPilot V4.0, top of the range, speaks DCC, Motorola® and Selectrix®. Armed for the coming NMRA DCC BiDirectional Standard („RailCom®“), it is for all ambitious model railroaders with technical vision and an appetite for new technologies."

Lokpilot 3 has m4, but no mention of it for Lokpilot 4.

Bit of a late reply on this, but you can configure your CS2 to use DCC protocol rather than MM.

Thanks Eric. I did actually realise that, after posting my comment above. And with the CS2, I would only need to set the loco up once, and then save the settings to a loco card. Only a minor inconvenience to read the settings from the card thereafter.
