Hi David,

Well, the status of my order at LokShop is stated as "processing". LokShop has my corect e-mail address and I don't seem to get any updates on a weekly basis. There used to be a girl by the name of Yoshida who was very efficient, and I am not sure if she is still working for LokShop. I am now dealing with a useless guy by the name of Andreas Stubenvoll. He seems to be uncommunicative and very inefficient. Maybe, that's the reason.

Can't wait to get hold of the classic!

Cheers,

Thanks you for that, David. I will send Roland an e-mail.

I am glad to note that Andreas is indeed a good and a helpful "chappee", Neville.

Hi All,

Just received an e-mail from LokShop that my order of the classic has been shipped today! I guess it will take approximately 10 days to reach. Can't wait to hold the beauty in my hands after all these years.

Thank you, Stephen and David. I hope it does not take too long to reach Malaysia.

By the way, do you know how to track this shipment via DHL/Deutsche Post AG/German Post AG? I plugged the tracking number in DHL and nothing showed up!

I am not doing all that great, Eric. You may have read in this forum that I am applying to Ph. D. programs in the US, and I hope it pans out well. Will keep everyone posted.

Meeting Kathy and you at your home for lunch (how can I forget the fabulous vegetarian lunch), and playng with your trains early last year was a wounderful, fun experience. I hope we can do it again sometime soon.

I am glad that you have also received notification about the 30210 from LokShop. I am sure you are going to enjoy it very much.

Cheers,
Ranjit

Hi Stephen, David, Ray, Lutz, John (Black),Thomas, Pål, Hans, FMS, Oscar, Neville, and Eric,

Finally, the grand old 30210 arrived from LokShop last Saturday, October 16, 2010, and I was very glad to see it the moment we stepped into our house on our arrival from Exeter, UK. Here are some detailed pictures of the Märklin classic.

Looks good, Ranjit. ThumpUp

I like the old style box. It's not quite the same as the originals, which don't have the polystyrene liner. At least the ones I have don't have it.

Much nicer than the current boring grey boxes!

Thank you, Ray.

It's funny, it seems we are in competition! But you are right, I would have also preferred that Marklin maintained the origianl packaging of the 50s and 60s. Somehow, I don't like the tabs they have in front of the box. Opening and closing the box is not as convenient as back then. However, overall, the lcomotive is in fine shape. I am not sure when I am going to see it running on my layout. Hopefully soon.

Cheers,
Ranjit

AS in another topic I got a 3021 a few years ago for the sum of $25.00. It had been converted to 2 rail but quickly converted back and fitted a mfx decoder. Came in the original box and instructions:

Looks good, Nev! ThumpUp

Love these old 3021s. I got one of these myself recently. Built like a tank and glides along super smoothly!

It's funny, but I never liked them in my early years. My first diesel was a Br212, followed by a Br216. When Marklin replaced the old V200 mould with the new ones for the V200.1 and then the V200.0, I thought it was a great improvement and shortly afterwards I got myself a 3782 Br221. Recently I started getting nostalgic about the old 3021, and finally succumbed and got one on ebay. I run it now alongside my 3782, and happily overlook the innacuracies!

The only thing I've done is to remove the front coupler which makes her look a lot better.

Hi Ray,

Very nice, I think every layout should have two of them. Smile

One could be digital and the other, of course would have to be Analog.

Ray, what is the road number on your 3021? And why did you remove the coupler in the front?

Hi Ranjit, my road number is 220 043-4. It is the last version of the 3021 that Marklin made, and has an Era IV number.

I took the front coupler off because I always run it in front of a passenger train in the same direction and have no need for it. In my opinion the loco looks a lot better without the ugly coupling sticking out the front. The coupler lives in the loco's box so I can put it back on if I need it.

Interesting idea about the "ugly" coupling in the front?

You don't find it ugly? It's certainly not prototypical, and most modern couplers are much more discrete than this one.

Perhaps the shape of the loco doesn't help? The sloped front I think makes the coupler more obvious than on other locos.

I have never found the front couplers to be ugly, Ray. I have not examined this locomotive so closely to notice all these fine details. I have just enjoyed it simply the way it is.

Your points are well taken.

Hello and a warm welcome to the forum, Espen!

What a mistake to have given away a classic?

Cheers,
Ranjit

a Little off Topic But I remembered that I had , I think, a 3075 a 1968-71 Red grey BR216 025-7 and Found where I had hidden it. gave it a little trot. This was another $25 find. again it had been converted to 2 rail, so quickly unconverted it and fitted a MFX Decoder.

An older 3021 or the newer 30210, Svein.

You will not regret the purchase if you get one. Go ahead and be a proud owner of a real Märklin classic!

Like Neville said, it is a MUST HAVE.

Cheers,
Ranjit

Ranjit,

A loco produced in the tens of thousands in the 50's & 60's and as Ray said a lot of them on ebay to be snatched up for peanuts (3021).

Not denying, it is a classic and my childhood memories looking at this loco for hours, upon hours in the catalogue.

Having said that, I'm somewhat practical and not so fanatic about it any more, to have every Märklin loco.

I have 2 of them, 1 x 3021, 1 x 3081.

I rather prefer to have the newer version of the V 200, V220 but than again I would be accused of missing the point of not being a classic model or a reproduction from the 60's.
When I converted them both to digital I also added a sound decoder and this, I must say, added another dimension to this classic loco.
I also agree with the reproduction of the Le Capitole, with the original loco, a very thought after model including the carriages that came with it at the time, has had a more favourable price tag than the 3021, in later years to come.

I don't think these 2 classics are in the same league and I think the reproduction of the Le Capitole will be again, in future, a thought after model.
Another point I like to make, at the time when the 3021 came out and the Le Capitole was produced, the German loco was a favourite for most of us, whereas the French loco was somewhat foreign.

Today we look at it from a different perspective, country of origin doesn't mean much any more and as I said before the 30210, in my opinion will not bring the returns, the french loco + carriages will.

I would suggest for any new owners of locos, when you receive a new loco, the exitement of joy and the sudden adrenalin sets in, your hands get slightly sweaty, use a cloth to cover your hands. The paint doesn't like acidity.

Hi John,

I believe that both one-time series Märklin reproduction locomotives -- "Le Capitole" (28590), and the V200 (30210) will remain classics for all time.

Although, some of the older 3021 can be "snatched up for peanuts" on ebay, the oveall condition of these locomotives are very poor. Most of them also do not come complete in their classic blue boxes. The ones that are well looked, and the ones that are in immaculate condition still fetch a very high price.

I am a proud owner of the new "75 years of Märklin" reproduction 30210, and I will always remain as one. I am pretty sure that the value of this locomotive will escalate in the future if I continue to keep it in its pristine condition.

Cheers,
Ranjit
