And I also noticed the original Marklin logo embossed on the front of the loco's body.

Hi All,

Does anyone have the Marklin 30210 in their hands? If so, what are your first impressions? Any detailed photos?

I have ordered one from LokShop for my birthday, but it is still on its way. I have also ordered the Marklin 4335 and 43351 cars.

Cheers

Ranjit, there is already another thread about this locomotive, so I am merging this one into it. There you will see a link to an ebay auction which has a good photo of 30210. Possibly Lutz may have one, but as it has only just been released, I doubt whether too many others will have it.

You are right about that one, Pål.

The #30210 is a real beauty, especially when it is manufactured and packaged the way it was in the 1950s and 60s. You will know it the minute you hold this locomotive in your hands next month in Germany. Have a good one.

Even though I'm totally nostalgic when it comes to Märklin, I don't think I'd buy this model. There are still zillions of original 3021's out there, I've got a well-worn 3921 Bausatz and a "Ladenneu" 3021 myself. The "Le Capitole" set is a different matter, as both the original loco and the carriages are quite rare and fetch lots of money. But as much as I like the 3021, and I really like it, I'd rather buy an old one for a few bucks and convert it to digital than buy this new one.

I agree. I can't see why everyone is raving about it, as it looks just like any number of 3021 I've seen on ebay.

Yes, it's a lovely old nostalgic model, I bought a mint one with a decoder already installed a couple of years ago for about 40 euro. I like running it in front of my old tin-plate coaches.

It's great, but the newer mould models like the 3780x are so much nicer and more accurate. That will be my next V200, not a copy of something I already have.

I want it, if only for the box it comes in! ThumpUp

I should point out that I also already have the 39803 Br220, as well as the 3122 V200 that came in my first starter set.

The point of difference of the 30210, for me, is the box and the "Deutsche Bundesbahn" lettering on the side (which neither of the 2 locos I have has).

Sorry Ranjit,

I didn't mean to rain on anyone's parade. I do agree it's a lovely nostalgic loco, I just don't see it as a priority for my collection as I already have a nice 3021.

As to the box, didn't the original 3021 come in the red and white boxes?

This one is for sale on ebay at 99 euro, by the way.

Possibly, but I'd like to start a collection of locos with the 1960/70's style boxes.

Hi Ray,

Have you ever touched and played extensively with a Marklin 3021 V200 in the 50s and 60s? If you have, then you would clearly know that there is simply NO alternative to this wonderful classic. A later Marklin 39803 Br220 or something similar does not cut it.

Cheers,
Ranjit

Well the 39803 does cut it, but in a different way. It has sound and a hi tech motor, and very good detailing, and is a Marklin product of the 2000's. It could well be looked upon with nostalgia by others in 40 or 50 years time, the same way we look at the 3021 and it's like.

But the likes of the 3021 from the 50/60/70's has lots of nostalgia for me, and remind me of my childhood. The 30210 brings some of that back to the present day.

I agree, and that's why I bought a 3021 a few years ago, after years of lusting after one in Markin catalogues.

Now that I have one, I don't really want another one, but I would consider the much more accurate 39803 as a model, not as a collectors piece.

What I was trying to get across is not that the 30210 is not a nice product, but that you can get lots of original 3021 examples in excellent condition at a fraction of the price on ebay.

Obviously this new loco has some kind of magic that I'm not seeing, as I can't see any qualities in this model that are not in the original, whereas lots of you are raving about it.

I guess it's best if I just admit defeat! BigGrin

Hi David,

Sure, the 39803 BR220 may have all the bells and whistles of the 21st. century, but we are speaking about a real classic here. That's why the 3021 V200 of the 50s and 60s still has so much nostalgia for you, reminds you of your childhood, and the brand new Marklin 30210 V200 brings some of that back to the present day. Same story for me too!

Cheers,
Ranjit

Hi Ray,

It is not the functionality of the Marklin 39803 BR220 over the 3021 V200. It is just nostalgia! If you are happy with your 39803 BR220, so be it. It seems that Stephen, David, John, Pål, Hans, FMS, and myself have all had this locomotive close to our hearts for a very long time, and I feel that you are "missing" it somehow. Also, I am not sure what it is, but even packaging and the words "Deutsche Bundesbahn" on the side of the locomotive brings back a very special feeling. It is a real CLASSIC, Ray, and I can't say more.

Cheers,
Ranjit

Ranjit, you are totally missing the point I'm making. I don't have a 39803, I have a 3021. I'm not missing the nostalgia at all!

I don't need to buy a new copy of the original to get more nostalgic, I only have to get mine out of its box and run it!

The only point I concede is that mine does not have the Deutche Bundesbahn logo, but the DB cookie. I bought this particular variant because I prefered it over the older version. At the time I could have bought the Deutche Bundesbahn, DB V200, or DB 220 versions, and I settled for the DB 220 because I liked it more than the other 2. It's still the same loco though, and the only reason I bought it was for nostalgic reasons.

I might, at some point, buy the 39803, but that will be for different reasons.

I am sorry, Ray, for the complete misunderstanding of your position. You have made it very clear in your note that you are indeed one of us who loves the 3021. I am glad about that. As I have never had the later 3021, I guess I do not know the differences that much. For me, the older 3021 is the one that I would like to have, and therefore my ravings about the 30210. I can't wait to get hold of it.

The 3122 V200 was my first Marklin locomotive, at age 11, and as such is very special to me.

Happily, the original models were not from this crazy era of political coreectness and overbearing health and safety legislation.

Ranjit, the Lokshop should be sending you a status update email for your order every week.

Hi Stephen,

Congratulations on becoming a proud owner of a Maerklin Classic! I am sure you are going to have yeas of fun with this locomotive.

Thank you for posting the detailed photos.

How come I still have not heard from LokShop regarding my order?

Cheers,
Ranjit

Ranjit, you should be able to log into the Lokshop's website and check your order status. The Lokshop also send out an automated update email every week, to advise you of the current situation with your order. Maybe, the Lokshop are sending yours to an incorrect email address.

Hi David,

Well, the status of my order at LokShop is stated as "processing". LokShop has my corect e-mail address and I don't seem to get any updates on a weekly basis. There used to be a girl by the name of Yoshida who was very efficient, and I am not sure if she is still working for LokShop. I am now dealing with a useless guy by the name of Andreas Stubenvoll. He seems to be uncommunicative and very inefficient. Maybe, that's the reason.

Can't wait to get hold of the classic!

Cheers,
Ranjit
