Several time ago I checked Ebay for interesting conversions, as I came about a Märklin F7 repainted in the livery of a DB V200.

I watched the auction, however, as usual, it got to expensive. Paying a high price and not knowing what kind of quality you get….actually, the pictures weren’t sharp enough to show the quality of work.

As there are enough Santa Fe and New Haven F7s available with worn paint, I decided just to get one of these and send them to a fellow model train enthusiast who does excellent repaints.

He’s a Trix Express friend, so his works mainly includes Trix models, however, he had repainted a Märklin Re 4/4 and several metal freight cars of the same manufacturer for me before.

I sent him the pictures I had saved from the Ebay auction and he said “yes” – so he finally got the shells of a dismantled F7 double unit.

The pictures show the completed model which has still to be converted to digital and fitted with a five-pole motor as the original motor doesn’t run so nicely.

Sure, a F7 never existed in this livery, it’s a fantasy model. It just shows what could have been if a North American railroad would have adopted the legendary design of the DB V200 for one of their F7s in the 1950ies.

I’m now planning a fitting caboose.

Florian,

I like it! You could always pretend that the DB fell short of new locos and bought a couple of second hand American locos in the '50s.

Hi Florian,

Nice repaint, and I applaud the creativity.
I think it would look extra nice with some lettering and a road number.
You might add the lettering Deepwater and Baltimore (DB), and the road number 200 to give it that final authentication.

regards
Kimball

That is just fantastic. I cannot wait to see the caboose painted in similar design colors.

I had thought about some lettering at first, but I abandoned this idea. So the model has the character of some design study, and so I leave it to everybody's own imagination, what US railroad could have adopted the V200 design or if the DB had fallen short of locos so that they acquired used rolling stock from overseas (as no used locos were available in Europe Cool).

However, I have replaced that old milk glas with clear glazing.

I'm running the loco with all kinds of American freight cars.

Wow! They look really nice! Your friend did an excellent job. I think the color scheme looks quite appropriate for an F-unit. ThumpUp

or you could say its prototype was used for the filming of a really awful Steven Segal action movie (which might be redundant).

To be honest - I don't like it but that is MHO only.
I am pleased that you have the right to paint your locos and rolling stock whatever colour your sweet little heart desires.
It is an interesting addition to MMR though...

It can't be a V 200 it has to be a V 400 (2x200) or a F 14
