Hi everyone:

Is there a "safe" way to test the operation of a smoke generator (7226 or Seuthe N. 10 and 11) without having to stick it into a locomotive funnel? Could it somehow be connected to the transformer, such as, say, a station lamp to be tested?

Thank you for your help.
Greetings from Montreal,
Armando
Best regards,
Armando García

You could test it with a direct hookup to a transformer, however the procedure I use is as follows: First, I measure the resistance across the generator with an ohmmeter. An open indicates a blown heating coil, zero indicates a shorted heating coil. I then hook it up to a variable power supply and apply voltage slowly.

Hello Armando, I put a couple drops of smoking oil inside the tube and connect it to the digital track.
If it works, you have instant smoke.
Regards.

Hello Jorge
Thank you for your comment.
How do you connect the little tube? Do you use two cables, say, one at the bottom and the other one on the side of the tube and then one of these cables goes to the center rail and the other to one of the two ground rails?
Saludos
Armando

Try using alligator clips - one from the centre track and the other earthed to the outer track.

A clothes peg may come in handy

Cheers
