Hi, Michael!

I presume we're talking about Märklin C Track (not Trix C Track).

I only use non-abrasive track cleaning. I'm afraid that abrasive track cleaning will lead to rough rails where the dirt sticks even better.

I use common white paper folded 2-3 times. I only use each side a few strokes.

Now and then clean the tracks using a vacuum cleaner extended with a thin (8 mm) plastic tube.
I just need space, money and time - That's all

I use a paper kitchen towel, folded over a few times, and run it along the track until I stop getting black "streaks" in the paper.

This works very well on plain track, but in turnouts the tissue gets caught on the raised "pukos" and tears up if you're not careful. The blades are also difficult to clean.

One negative effect of this method - I keep knocking my Preisers off the platforms and their track-side places. Very tiresome to keep gluing them back.

What do you do when you have Catenary? I don't yet, but I'm dreading it!Crying

Roco rubber and run locos on a regular basis. No need to spend a lot of cash on special cars.

The rail should be cleaned not abraded. I have used soft eracer " pink pearl " followed by metal polish. The one I use is Flitz Polish, information at www.flitz.com. Most of by test cleaning was on older recycled M track but works just as well on C track. When my layout is fully operational , I expect that little cleaning will be needed.

What´s difference...??? Confused
Modelrailway hobbyist are using trackcleaner to all type of tracks.
I myself are using either chemical gasolin or contact cleaner PRF 6-68. ThumpUp
They are harmless against rustfree steel or nickelsilver! ThumpUp

Cool

P.S.
Don´t have power on the track, when you are cleaning on the track with chemical gasolin!!!

Ray. I just ask my Preisers to take a couple of steps back when i run the rubber over the track.
If you run locos regularly then I find I only need to clean if I have been working on the layout or scenery etc. Small hand held car vaccum is good for moving dust or bits of scatter that have come loose.

I use a few folds of shopping docket paper, which is glossy.

Unlike paper towels, tissue etc, it has high strength, and easily glides over track without catching.
Discard when too black.

Centre rail studs can be harmful for fingers, sheets of paper, and other cleaning material.
And centre rail can even get rusty.
