Hello everyone,

I will be building a large K track layout in a very large shed in the future.
I would like a very realistic layout with long sweeping bends for the main line.

I was wondering what the maxium angle bend that can be done with the 2205 flex track? I'm wondering if it I could use them for loooong curners, as even the widest radius K track curves are only 618mm which is way too sharp for running an ICE at 300km/h around.

The other option is to use the 2274 curve. It has a 902mm radius which would be great, however there is no parallel curve to go with it so you can't run a main line with a pair of tracks.

I know a lot of people only have small layouts and this stuff has never been an option but I'm hoping someone can shed some light on what they've done?

Do whatever you want to do with M.2005, but make sure you use a jig or pattern for consistency of curve and a set of Flexgleisspanner (Conrad part munber 21 77 33-47 or a more recent upgrade number) - indespensible for this sort of project.

Apologies for the typo in my previous thread - it should have course been M. 2205. The revised part number from page 109 in the Conrad 2009 Catalogue is 21 77 33-65 at €20.95 incl. tax. There is also a Z gauge item Part number 21 77 36-65 for the same price.
And to conclude - a comment from Roland Zötzl in the Catalogue "Einfach praktisch: Für exakte Bogen"

In addition to what Graham said, you also need a cutter, like a dremel.
I had no problem bending K track.

The 2205 *IS* a flexible track, and can be bent to any extend.
The 2274 is nice, and you can use it as one of the tracks in a double tracked line, where the parallel track can be made with the 2205.
While the mentioned tools are a great help, I laid my tracks without any of them. (Well, I used a Dremel until the last disc broke, now a use a saw)

Ok so from these replies I take it there is no real physical limitation on what radius you can bend a 2205?
So It could thereotically be bent to a 360mm radius? I don't think this would be possible due to the inside rail having to be shorter than the outside?
Either way if I can use them as an outside cuver with the 2274 that should give a nice sweeping curve - otherwise I can just use a pair of 2205's for an even wider radius curve.

Does anyone have pictures of the 2205 being used as a large radius curve on a layout?

When you bend it any amount, the rails become uneven. You must cut the longer rail.

The 2274 track does'nt make a circle.
I have used the 2274 track and bending (not physically) it to a 180 half circle doesn't hurt.
This gave me a startingpoint to lay my flexi track next to it and uphold the distance between the 2 tracks, making the 2205 an even curve.

You can not bend flex to arbitrary sharp curves. The shorter radius, the larger stress affects the tiny plastic parts, which keep rails on track. Someone recommends that fine 2-rail flex should not be bend under 1000 mm radius. That is very conservative recommendation, and many use also shorter radii and Märklin's flex has also more robust structure. I would not use that under 600 mm radius.

I once bend a short section sharper than the industrial track radius. It was used on my first permanent layout. No problem! ;-)
-However, the track-piece was not recyclable when the layout was broken up...

Yeah as mentioned I only want to use them for wide radius curves of 1000mm or greater, which shouldn't be a problem then.
Wanted to make sure it would handle that radius as I've never used it before.
Thanks for the help everyone.
