Hi All,

Has anyone anyone tried to use Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology in their layouts for train detection, automating grade crossings, signals, etc.?

Cheers,
Ranjit

RFID is still very expensive - at least in my part of the world... I can't see it becoming part of MRR for a while..

RFID provides identity and proximal location. Train layouts, have a fixed topology allows the identity of trains to be tracked, they they do not need identification. The location does need to be detected and there are much easier more accurate and cheaper systems already available. what problem are you thinking to solve ? Grade crossing booms need to be lowered for all trains... etc If you are planning to identify your train, work back to where you lost its identity and you may find that in fact you never did lose track of its identity.
