The problem is that the train room is located away from the router - hence the use of an on board wireless card in the PC. The PC's original LAN port then connects the ecos via a cat 5/6 cable..
Works great in terms of Windigipet's control of the eCOS...
I am not sure that the switch will help here..

XP has a 'network bridge' function to be able to act as a bridge/gateway. Maybe you can use it between the fixed network adapter and the wireless one. I don't know about IPs though, if they have to be in the same subnet or not. I never succeeded in using that function.

Hi Adrian,
get your self a wireless accesspoint, or a 2:nd router which can act like such an accesspoint, and connect the ECoS to it. Then change the IP-address settings in the WDP-interface settings to the new IP of the ECoS (which is then in the 192.168.1.x range). Then also enter the IP in TouchCab and you're done!
Fredrik.

Thanks Bert - It worked a treat.. I ended up bridging the network between the lan and the wireless networks on the PC after I set the lan card to a 192.168.1.xxx address and changed the eCOS address to 192.168.1.xxx. Now the eCOS is visible on the local network.. I hope that nobody hacks my eCos now.. [xx(]
Touchcab is awesome.. As soon as I dialed up the correct address it loaded all the locos from the eCOS into the iPod.. I then used Skype to view the trainroom and operated the layout (until Harry Potter decided to derail on a switch that has operated perfectly for months) using the iPod...
I fired up WindigiPet remotely and lost control of the loco as it assumed a higher authority had control of the loco.. In fact, Windigipet allows you to manually control locos on the layout.. While Windigipet had control of the layout I could still watch the turnouts switching on the iPod screen... Very cooooooool... [^][^][^][^][^]
Anyway after I shutdown Windigipet, I could not get control of the loco until I exited and restarted TouchCab..
A great effort and well worth the $10 I paid (okay - and the $244 for the iPod touch!)... I would like to see a better awareness of other programs like WDP and railway & Co, so that I can use the iPod to do things at the far end of the layout, even when Windgipet is running...
Cheers
Adrian

Actually this would be my preferred solution, but I can't get two wireless routers to talk with WPA security... I can get it work as an unsecured network, but there is no way I can run an unsecured network in my neighbourhood.. If you can show me a site that can help me to get this to work, I would be very happy to give it another try..

Try one of these: "D-Link DAP-1522 Wireless Accesspoint" (or you actually might need 2...):

You might even get the proper length of network cable to connect the ECoS directly to the router...!
But it should be possible to connect to routers with WPA-security... Which routers do you have?

I know there are issues with WDP, yet other programs coexist nicely with TouchCab.
I've been talking the the WDP author about it, and he told me that in the WDP system settings, you should enable "Display of all Loc-commands via
entry" (for processing locomotive command events) and "Display status of
solenoid devices by entry via keyboard" (for solenoid device command
events).
I haven't tried it myself yet, but perhaps this helps.
Best regards,
Jens

Hi Thomas.
I've been looking into the CS2 protocol a while back, and while I can query the CS2 for locomotives, I can't do the same for accessories. So the auto-load is broken, and I haven't been looking at the protocol since. Consequently, it's not right around the corner.
However, that YouTube video has certainly stirred things and kicked in some doors, so the world may be changing. It helps when people want to talk to me ...
I also noticed from the website log that TouchCab is being discussed in the insider club forum, but I don't know what they're saying. Hopefully something nice. If anyone is listening, please let Märklin know I am interested in talking to their CS2 programmers.
I don't know exactly what is going to happen and when, but other command stations are within reach. Just don't expect support for anything with only an RS-232 serial port.
Now, all the commotion also means I'll step back for a while and focus on getting some work done. I'll be reading here on and off, but don't expect me to post much.
You can still reach me through the TouchCab web site and the mail addresses listed there.
Thanks all
Best regards,
Jens

Jens,
Thank you for the update, hopefully you can make progress with the CS2. I was at a train show today and discussed your product with some of the other club members. TouchCab is certainly appealing when trying to run a large club layout and having access to a portable control, allowing greater mobility around the layout. As shown in your video.

Thomas

Nup.. I already had those settings on WDP... It's not a big deal.. I just have to return the loco to the "display case" in the loco database and then TouchCab works fine.. It just seems odd that I don't have the same problem with turnouts..

The much anticipated, and also much hyped Apple Tablet is expected to be announced today. I am interested to see if and how TouchCab will work and look on the Tablet. Also what if any new features Jens can bring to it.

Its easy, you can do it via a CS1. I tested it earlier tonight and it works.(I hope you have a CS1 lying around somewhere

While at Euro East 2010, (Held at the Big E show) one of our club members brought a small layout with an EcOS controller and a wifi router. We were able to connect my iPod Touch and presto! I was controlling the 2 loks with TouchCab. It really is a marvel to see in action.
Jens, How are you making out with connection to CS2, without having to go through a CS1?

TouchCab 1.6 is released
Wednesday, 24 Aug, 2011
After a last minute rejection, TouchCab and TouchCab Free version 1.6 have now been approved for sale in the iTunes App Store. If the apps are not there yet, they will be within the next 24 hours.
The rejection was due to TouchCab not looking good on an iPad, which is fair enough, since it was never built for it. After recompiling for iPhone and iPod only, the review process was picked up immediately (wow) and there were no further issues.
So - TouchCab is off the iPad for now ...
Also, I had to restrict this version to iOS 4 or better, since I no longer have any means of testing for iOS 3.x. Sorry folks, but that is the way it’s gonna be. I have had reports of 1.6 crashing on iOS 3.x, but no way to solve it.
You may find that things behave slightly different in version 1.6 compared to 1.5, and this may cause some getting used to.
Please check the release notes or the instructions if you are uncertain. I’m sure you’ll appreciate it after some operating sessions.
What’s next?
•TouchCab 1.7: XpressNet accessories
•TouchCab 1.8: Märklin CS2
•TouchCab 2.0: Track plans, iPad and Mac
Have fun, and don’t forget to tell me if you find anything strange, OK?
TouchCab Release Notes
Version 1.6
New features and changes
•Revised track power scheme
•Improved left/right hand cab layouts for easier operation
•Indexed locomotive list (for 14+ locomotives)
•Access to functions F8+ by swiping the function buttons
•Landscape mode removed
•Up to 29 functions
•iOS4 suspend/background mode supported
•Last used locomotives moved to cab view
•New function symbols for ECoS 3.4.0
•Improved handling of special characters in loco names
•Stop all trains at exit removed
•"Shake to stop" removed (silly feature)
•Many improvements to the overall code
Bug fixes
•Fixed handling of 1 or 2 occupied locomotives
•Improved network handling
•Lots of minor fixes
Known issues
•Functions above F19 not working with ECoS v3.4.0 due to a bug in the ECoS software.

Jens, all,
I updated my touchcab version to 1.6 via ITunes a few weeks ago. Now sadly it will not open or stay open at all, even for a demo look thru, on my I Phone so I can't even connect it to try it.
I thought about a reload but that seems to involve removing it from Itunes as well as the phone. Does that mean I have to re purchase the App ??
Touch Cab was a big reason I chose an Iphone over other devises.
Cheers

First question is which iOS are you running on your IPOD iOS4 or iOS 3.x.

Touchcab is a great wireless controller and has proved very reliable, for me, you also have to watch out for Glen in control of Loco's, now that's scary! Marklin has an app (for the CS2 only) it mimics the CS2's screen and controls the locos, signals, switches etc in the same way as the CS2 does. Touchcab is wonderful for the CS1

Yes it will, provided you have the CS1 connected to a home network or router with a wireless capability.
I have used TouchCab with my CS1, see

I think that your CS1 needs to be at v2.0.3 or v2.0.4 to support Touchcab, which means it will have to have been updated to hardware and software v2.0 by Marklin.

The Auckland Marklin Club's donated CS1 v1.0? is, courtesy of, and thanks to Toottoot, on its's way to Marklin now for the upgrade to V2.0/2/3 ???
So I think sending any older CS1 v1.x is worthwhile
