A fine looking train. How does it run on the track?

Havent been able to run it much, only got is this week, but on the test round it performed as silent as all Roco's, which is good. It was able to handle all switches (narrow, wide, curved switches) properly. It did also handle te steepest section without spinning of wheels, which is nice beacause Roco's somethimes need to be refited whith Marklin tires to prevent this. But not here.
The decoder is prety basic, but does the job: min and max speed / acceleration and deceleration / half speed / braking section yes or no, and thats it. Maybe I'll make an upgrade to Loksound 3.5 in future if I'm able to discover which sound suits it best.
The manual (a3 format) contains an exploded view, part numbers, and instructions in multiple languages.
For now I'll fit it with a Lissy transmitter and perform some 60 min running in both directions as recommended in the manual.

I own a similar 69110 set (Mediolanum version...) since may 2008 and ran it very much. I am much satisfied of this train: smooth, silent, it is as good as a Marklin engine. Detailing is great! It is one of the most elegant DMU trains that ran in Europe, to me! The only problem you might have is about the front that is protruding from the bogies much more than other models. Buffer could interfere with objects in curves. Pietro

Noticed that! I had to re-adjust some of the catenary in my widest R4 and R5 curves. All beauty comes with a price. I also tried to fit a slighlty smaller buffer. Do you know if there is a propper sound decoder for this train?

And I had to mill a little the left side of this curved gallery (R2 curve)... because I didn't want to change buffers... Even if it seems so much at a first look, you just mill 3-4 mm and everything goes right!

Anyone interested in these fine units may like to know that a well known Ebay Seller 'roterwer' is currently offering them at very favourable prices. I have just picked up a 69114 FS Version for only Euro 145..... In 3 Rail Digital he only has the FS Version, but in 2 rail he has 63110 TEE Mediolanum and 63117 Tee Lemano which are auctioned on 1 day auctions, and are also Buy It Now for Euro 169.
These are the cheapest prices I can find anywhere. Like most Roco it should be a straightforward job to convert toi 3 Rail if you particularly want a TEE version.

Yup stange things happening to the prices of this model. Search on www.marktplaats.nl for roco 69117 and you'll find two offers. One for € 150 and one for € 165 Recommended retailprice is €299! Whats going on?

I wonder if Roco are trying to turn some stock into cash quickly. There have been a few rumours about Roco's finances recently.
Even in the old days of Roco, there were always crazy prices available on selected items from time to time. I remember picking up a digital Class 145 for under GBP 70 in the days of good exchange rates!

I don't remember what's the sound installed, perhaps the similar svt137/vt08. |

Thanks a lot! Now that I've opened the train, I'm in doubt if there is room for a sound decoder.[8)]

Hi- does anyone have one of these railcars in the AC variant? And if so, can you confirm if they use 1 or 2 pickup shoes? I picked up a DC variant which I popped a decoder into and have nearly ready for AC. I know I need one slider for the main power unit, but I have heard roco used one on the dummy unit as well? Electrically it doesn't seem necessary, but I'd like to follow factory protocol as I'm sure if they used two they did so for a reason.
Thanks! |

Thanks! I don't have this trainset. If the slider is mounted on the lead bogies, it might make sense to have one at each end of the trainset, so that it could collect power from whichever end was leading. If the slider is mounted on the rear bogie, then it would not really matter (as far as signals) whether there was one a few cm away at the rear bogie of the trailing unit. Maybe Rinus can give you a definite answer? He started this topic with a description of his 69XXX AC unit. Regards Mike C

Thanks! Yes. There was a 3 rail version, bought a few years ago . Only one pick up shoe I have it and can only confirm its great qualities. Was absolutely needed in my TEE collection! Cheers Jacques |
