Go for it, Panayoti - according to KOLL's both plastic shells are identical. Still better, the older #3070 (1965-1970) got way finer details - lettering, chromed window frames, plus interior lights [:p][:p][:p]

The older 3070/4070 shells suffered either from heat(interior lighting) or poor plastic production. Many of them will be warped. They do have the nice window outlining and lights that are lacking in the 3071/4071 as mentioned before. I have the later 3071/4071 that has the deeper burgundy coloring. I'd prefer a straight body myself. Get good side pics before purchasing sight unseen. Good Luck.

There are two shades of burgundy on that series just to add to the difficulty of finding a matching shell. The later being darker, if I remember right. I found a source to better illustrate the two colors. It may be quite obvious after all. I don't have both myself. http://www.bigio.net/Trieb/3071/3071.htm

From 1971 to 1986 the 3071 and 4071 was produced in beige/red 1978 to 1989 only it was beige/dark red. I have one each of the 4071 and the difference is big. The dark one will have to be satisfied with a life on a workshop yard track. I have installed the light guides from 3070/4070 in my set. Two 610080 bulb connected in series in each car gives a soft and nice light, not genrating too much heat. Add up with the interior and locomotive window set from 3471 or 39700 and a five-star motor (60904 or 60924) and you have a perfect set. It is some info about it on my website. |
