Hi Lutz,
Thanks very much for your interest and comments.
My CS2 is at version 1.1.3(0), with hardware version 3.4. The CS2 itself and all three of my 60173 boosters are at TFP level 1.22.
However, I think I have solved the problem! First of all, I performed an "Update program" step without nothing connected to the CS2, and the problem went away (the update failed, naturally). mfx locos responded quickly, and (eventually, after about half an hour) the mfx locos on the track sorted out their registrations and all started to work normally.
Then, later, the problem returned, and I was up to 30 seconds or more response time for mfx locos. But I discovered that it is the presence of my BR112 loco from the 26540 set that causes the problem! If this loco is not on the track when the CS2 is booted, everything works OK.
So, I've no idea why, but it looks as though I need a new mfx decoder for this loco. Have you ever seen a problem like this? I wonder if it's a known mfx fault?
I think this loco may be on its way back to Weinsberg!
Thanks again for your helpful input.
Best wishes,
Nigel

Glad to hear that this is out and working! A couple of members of the ETE-ENE have the CS2. I will let them know that the new firmware is available.

Looks like it really has nothing to do with the update. Maybe you might try to perform a reset on the loco/decoder and test it again before having to send it back.
Good luck!
Hi Lutz,
Thanks. No, I'd never heard of Christian Lindberg, so I looked for him on YouTube. Obviously a great musician, but slightly weird (in the charming sort of way that could only be Swedish!).
I can't manage to reset the decoder - the CS2 obviously doesn't recognise the loco, and it doesn't respond to the programming sequence on a 6021. Hans (my dealer) has passed the question on to Frank Mayer, so we'll see what he thinks!
Best wishes,

I finally got time to update my CS2. Took the cable out of my computer, hooked it to the CS2 and did the update smooth as silk. I don't know why one would use the stick to do it. I guess if you didn't have high speed internet connection you could get the update on someone elses computer and take it to your CS2.
Anyway, the keyboard works and I was able to correct some some other picture problems I had. Somehow, I had gotten the data base of pictograms messed up. My F7 showed the picture of the Red Arrow. Changed all the f7s to the now available correct Santa Fe.
Now, I am thick I guess. When I select the "everything option" I get the choices of Loks with pictures. Very nice. I can scroll between the pages of loks. But, what do the letters stand for?
< AD E Sw >
By choosing them I get the pages of loks - but what do the letters stand for?
Thanks,
Eric

I'm intrigued by the same thing, only I have "79" and "BR".... I wonder what that means. I can't relate these labels to addresses and/or names of my loks, so I don't get it.

It's the first two characters of the name of the first loco on each page of locos.
It's just a hint to help you pick the right page when you are looking for a loco to select.

Help! Maybe I've forgotten something. I can't seem to change the decoder addresses now. I call up the lok, pick the tool icon and get the screen as normal. All things appear the same. Lok name, picture, decoder "programable"
I change the address and hit the download icon in the lower right of the screen.It starts transferring but only for a short time. It then says transfer complete and I click the green check and the green check to exit the screen. Lok does not respond. Before the change worked fine on the programming track. Go through process and up load address and it gives the old address which works fine. So, address not going through. Lok pilot 3.0 by the way. Never had a problem setting addresses before. Did I forget something?
Thanks,
Eric

Thanks Eric, and you're right!
I've been around the interface a bit, and I haven't been able to interpret completely the new DCC decoder programming method which does support Programming On the Main (POM). I don't see a "conventional" DCC programming interface as it was previously.
This new one appears to be more complex to operate, but also customizable. CVs can be "baptised" and a "portfolio" of CVs may be created as required and the resulting decoder profile may be saved. Thus, one may create a profile for Lopi v2, another for Lopi v3, another for LS v3.5, etc, etc. Without instructions, the way I understand the programming process is like this:
1 - Create profiles for your DCC decoders and save them. Each CV in the profile will then be identified by the name you give it;
2 - Call an existing or create a new DCC lok;
3 - Load the relevant decoder profile (e.g. Lopi v3);
4 - Change the values of the CVs as required;
5 - The profile and the CV values become embedded with each DCC loco you have and is saved together with the loco information.
This is a really clever process, which reduces the crypticism of DCC CV programming but also makes it more complex and initially more time consuming. Also, different firmware versions of the same decoder models may have different or new CVs, so care is required.
Please
Is the new interface described abov available now for everybody including those who download from V 1.05 or for those who download from V 1.07(2) or V 1.07 (3) with dcc , only ?

Update - see my previous post.
I have tried my Marklin hobby 36854 Rag & 36851 Cargo. I can change the addresses at will perfectly. I still cannot change any of my Lokpilot 3.0 conversion reliably. I did get one of the 4 I tried to change but I could not get it to change back or to another address.
Can someone else try their Lok pilot conversions. Not sure what to do next. I hope this is not what I think it is.

Finally I got the chance to perform the update and it actually caused me a lot of problems the first couple of times. It kept stating that the update was unsuccessful. The problem was that it was not downloading the software the first couple of times (visible in the progress bar during the updating).
After having tried a couple of times by simply pressing "update program" in the setup screen, I pressed the wrench icon (switching to processing mode), then pressed the "update program" and viola... the update succeeded.
Anyway - the CS2 and the booster is now updated and everything looks great. I haven't had the time to try out all the functions yet, but I hope to get a time slot from SWMBO very soon.
Best,
Burnix

I tried updating my CS2 last night. No luck. I connected the CS2 to my router and started the update. It progressed fine with all the different color bars. After that, I got the language selection popup screen. I select English and click the check mark. Then I get a message saying the update was not successful.
I tried it many times (including what Burnix did with the wrench icon) but no luck.
I have always had a problem with my CS2 where on startup it always asks me to pick the language. Not sure if this is causing the problem.

Regarding the changing colors I seem to remember that the bar color was blue while actually downloading the software and that when the bar cursor (grey) reached the end it jumped back to where the blue began and continued. I definitely remember that this looked different to what I had seen before.
I don't know if this is of any help, but I hope you will be able to update it successfully.
Best,

Mine was like that until I specifically set the language i some preferences dialog and after that used the shutdown-button to actually make sure everything I did was saved properly. Don't know if this helps.

To program the TT your should first press the STOP-button (yes the BIG ONE!) to shut power of your layout. Then you press it again and within 5 seconds you must start programming your TT following the instructions in the TT-booklet. This "emergency-stop" procedure is considered as the "start-up" of the layout which is required to enter programming-mode of the TT-decoder.
And: No - you don't need to connect it to the programming track!

This statement is not 100% clear.
The icon

is stored in the mFX decoder NOT the ICON itself.
If a function icon ID is configured by one controller (eg a CS2) that is not known by another controller (eg a CS1) it cannot extract the picture from the decoder.
Similarly for loco icons which are *.png images. To transfer this image you have to do it manually (USB update etc... ) or you can use the lococard.
