I decided to experiment with an LED lamp and some flashes. Equipment is a Canon 90D with two Canon flashes and an LED spot lamp. All images taken with Aperture Priority on a tripod. An 18% grey card was used to set exposure.

1. The first image is with the LED lamp and one flash pointed up at a white ceiling.
2. The second image is with the LED lamp and two flashes. Both pointed up at the white ceiling.
3. The third image is with the LED lamp and both flashes. The main flash is pointed up while the second is now at 45 degrees pointed back into the ceiling corner (white ceiling and a china white wall).

Images were cropped to 16x9 with just some minor auto exposure tweaking.

All three look OK to me. But my preference is number three followed by one. I was fun playing around and thought I'd share my experience.

Hi Ken,

#1 for best blacks.
The photo will look better if the drive rods are at the 6 o'clock position.
There seems to be an arc in the track, that is it doesn't look flat.

The wheels in #3 have a little less shadow. You should include info on the lens you used and the speed and f stop setting. Nikon had an interesting ring light for macro photography. I usually find led's to be harsh. Did you find a way to soften the light? But regardless the photos look great.
Marklin 39392. I have that engine. Love it.

A tip here is to use LED lights with a high CRI that includes a high R8 (Red), or that the CRI calculation is based on the full scale R1-R15, and not only the R1-R7 (Ra)
Often, cheap products that claim a high CRI, only use the R1-R7 range in the CRI(Ra) calculation.
This is simplified, so Google it for more information.
