Hello all,

I have a MS2 which I normally leave connected to my CS2, it works fine. I need to connect the MS2 to my 60113 trackbox to reset MFX registration on two locos.

However the MS2 powers up and stays stuck on 'Marklin' on the display and nothing else. I am assuming the trackbox is faulty.

Could this be related to firmware by chance? My MS2 is running current firmware via CS2 update but can a 60113 / 60116 trackbox get updated?

Dear Applor -

First check the pins in the MS2’s DIN connector. Bent ones can cause strange behaviour.

Yes. When the MS2 passes the Märklin screen and becomes alive, it will have a menu entry to update the track box.

It could help to delete some files from the MS2 file system. I'm not sure if this can be done while the MS2 is connected to the CS2, but might be worth a try.

Regards
Tom

Observing the screen during the update , there is a "defrag" step

The pins must be fine because its the exact same cabling as used with my CS2, which works OK.

After yesterdays updates via CS2, I connected the trackbox again and this time it asked me to update.
Great sign!

However after pressing yes it jumped to 9% progress and has not changed for an hour.

I dare say there is no way out of this.

This statement is incorrect/incomplete. Although it may not be related to your main problem

There are two pairs of power pins that Maerklin have used in a manner that allows a MS2 to work off both a CS2 and MS2 (Native and with a 60122 HUB). The 60122 MS II Hub will (with its 10 pin plug) will physically plug into a CS2, but will not operate.

The symptom of lights on (power) but no one home (brains) is most likely to be one of the CAN bus pins being bent.

Given that you have indicated there are some brains, because you indicate "...this time it asked me to update...." there still leaves a possibility that the pins are bent such that the connection is not good and may loose contact with movement.

If one of the CAN pins was bent, I wouldn't be able to use or update the MS2 when it is connected to the CS2. Unless I am mis-understanding something?

It appears that you are unable to update the MS2. A bent or missing pin on the cable would be easy to ascertain with a visible inspection.
