Having brought this up to the fore, so to speak...

https://www.marklin-users.net/fo...lin-American-Locomotives

and having followed these for a long time...

https://www.marklin-users.net/fo...t42883-Desmaigne-Project

https://www.marklin-users.net/fo...n-Black----NYC--Highline

https://www.marklin-users.net/fo...-SP--WP--TandP--NYC--ARR

and then stumbled across these:

https://www.marklin-users.net/fo...or-a-Grand-Canyon-Layout

https://www.marklin-users.net/fo...-Marklin-26490-Blue-Bird

and these from quite recently:

Caveat and Confession: I have no US aspect Märklin items at all - not even a beer car Blink

How many of you all have None, A few, or All? Especially as Mother M has in recent years "Kicked It Up A Notch" so to speak?

Just Curiouser and Curiouser am I Blushing

A second question like unto the first, although outside of the general intent of the Poll:

"Do those of you who do have US aspect trains limit yourself to MäTrix items, or do you "retrofit" other manufacturers products to fit (for extra numbers, or items not currently in the MäTrix lines)?"

I will not tread across the "Which couplers do you use?" Scared threshold, as that is a rather deep, dark Rabbit Hole...LOL LOL

p. s. I mention "retrofit" as that is way beyond my skill set, let alone my pay grade Blushing so I am always in awe of those who can ThumpUp ThumpUp

Then, I wrote this "letter of reference" for the Märklin F7 10 years ago:

(1) Shell details: According to ModelRailroader October 2006 pg. 60 - 65 drawings, the M* model is a F3 Phase IV / F7 Phase I. Those versions had, inter alia, a rectangular connection door window and a a triangular roof overhang (thus no M* invention). Only subsequently, the connection door window became round and the roof overhang disappeared. For comparison and confirmation, see also: http://www.atsfrr.net/re...funits/pdf/F7-A-Pass.pdf

(2) Undercarriage dimensions: I am astonished and positively surprised that - despite common statements - M* F7 models do not fare that bad in comparison with the prototype (let alone competitors).

axial distance
prototype: 2744 mm
1:87: 31,54 mm
Märklin: 34 mm

truck distance
prototype: 9144 mm
1:87: 105,1mm
Märklin:106 mm

Length
prototype: 15443 mm
1:87: 177,50 mm
Märklin: 178 mm

Width
prototype: 2997 mm
1:87: 34,44 mm
Märklin: 36 mm

The tolerances are in my view totally acceptable (and impressive given that the M* F7A form stems from the 1960s).

In summary, the model is better than its reputation.

And my favourite prototype:

A single EMD F3A with red warbonnet hauling a short Super C train - three flat cars and a way car - from Chicago to LA on July 13 1968 (a Saturday). Probably the consist was shortened due to the weekend.
