The new class 66 39665 seems to be a very nice tank engine. I was surprised to see that they had fitted a dynamic smoke generator in it. Cool
In the latest insider magazine, there is also a nice article about it.

To me it looks like a Br64 with an extended coal bunker, that then requires a two axle bogie under it instead of the single axle one the Br64 has.

I think this is standard across the industry, I have a few non-Marklin items that have been on order since 2023 and 2024.

I would prefer the items are late than they cut corners and deliver a sub-standard product.

Perhaps they should offer slightly less products and actually deliver?

I guess that depends on how you look at it. The BR 64 is "identical" to the BR 24, with many parts that can be swapped between them. boiler wheels, cylinders etc. The BR 66 is different technically, but the constructors probably got some inspiration from the old BR 64 class?. I guess that technically, the BR 66 probably has some similarities with the BR 65 newbuild class?.

In the interests of fairness - now that they've shipped and reviews are out - I fully concede that I was a little paranoid to query the DCC compatibility of the new crane. Which just goes to show how much more reliable Marklin are than say - Hornby!

I remain far too tempted to buy a pair of them and hack them for 2-rail!
