Hi,

My layout is controlled by a Intellibox II (Uhlenbrock) multiprotocol AC-DCC.

No problem with the DCC locomotives and modern Märklin AC-DCC locomotives.

But I amb observing that with the Märklin locomotives only with motorola format and with more than 4 functions like for example 37628 F7 Kansas City, I enclose the functions manual detail, all funtions described in the manual with function 5/6/7/8/9 and 10 do not work at all. That happens with all Märklin locomotives with this type of decoder motorola with more than 4 functions.

It is normal? What can I do in order to solve this anomaly?

These functions only works with digital Märklin comander?

Thanks for information.

Rgds.

Josep

Hi,

On some of Märklins MM decoders the locomotive address + 1 holds the next 4 functions as F1=F5, F2= F6 etc. It should be stated in the manual. Try it!

Thanks Peder for reply.

I know that, with the old Intellibox comander I needed to do this because from factory it only managed 4 functions but after an update and doing your procedure it was be able to manage till 8 functions, but with the new Intellibox II, it manage 28 functions and with format DCC I have not no problem, only with MFX Märklin I have these problems.

The extra addresses are not necessarily turned on in the decoder. You may have to set some CVs in the decoder to enable the +1, +2 etc addresses to get at the extra functions.

Some Maerklin (Motorola) decoders supported protocols which provided for more than 5 functions (F0-F4). With Motorola's system (6021), you could access functions F5 through F8 by accessing F1-F4 on the subsequent MM address once the additional function option was activated.
So, if your loco was set to MM 24, the additional functions would be controlled by MM25. The problem was that changing the 6021 to MM25 would leave you in a position where you could no longer control the speed or other settings (other than the additional functions) and the only control you had was the full cut off.
If using a loco with additional functions in MM mode on a MS, CS, ECOS or other, you need to be in Motorola mode and to enter the second address for that loco.

Those functions will not appear in any form as F5-F8 of the original MM address AFAIK.
If the decoder also supports DCC, it may be possible to access that way, but I don't know if any of the early MM/ESU OEM decoders could do that. Perhaps the final OEM ESU for Maerklin ones could.
The Motorola 6080/6090 did not support more than a single function.

The problem with the additional addresses was that MM (Maerklin Motorola) was limited to 80 addresses and if multiple addresses were used for the same loco, you could have less addresses to choose from.

Actually, with a CU 6021 you can set function/speed control to one address and f1 through f4 to another address, so you keep speed control while also controlling f5 through f8 (or f9 through f12 or f13 through f16).

Thanks for replies.

I do not have a 6021.
My comander is an Intellibox II ( Uhlenbrock brand). Photo attached.
What I do not understand that my Intellibox II manage till 28 functions either in motorola or DCC but with this kind of Märklin motorola locomotives with apparently more than 4 functions as per above attached manual sheet, I do not manage any function from F5 to ........

Rgds.

My old dealer loved that Intellibox over a 6021.

There is no F5 in the MM protocol.
I assume that the IB II translates F5 to F1 for address+1. Of course, this only works if the loco decoder responds to address+1.

With many Märklin locos, F5 through F8 will be on address 255. So create a loco with address 255 and try F1 through F4 and look for reactions. Further functions may be available on 254 and 253, but usually those addresses are disabled by default.
