While operating my layout in RR, two switches appear to somehow be synchronized (see the screen shot below):

The two switches with the red squares seem to always either both be "straight" or "thrown." If one switch is changed by RR as a route is reserved, the other switch changes too even if it isn't in the route. Most often this isn't a concern however on occasion this can cause a lok to simply be stalled in a "wait" status because a switch is in the wrong orientation for the route. I cannot for the life of me see where in setup these two switches have been set to synchronize with one another. Note that I can change (as in the screen shot) so that they are orientated differently. Any thoughts?

Hello John
Here a Rocrail fan since 2013 used with Märklin CS3, C Track
For sure there is no Rocrail bug in this area but it has all to do with the declaration of the 2 switches.
First checks:
- do both swiches have a different address?
- can you control them separately from Rocrail? from your Central Station?

Worst comes to worst you may:
- delete in Rocrail, both switches and create them anew
- make sure that involved routes still control the "new" switches

Also make a check of your layout:
- select Track plan, then edit panel
- select "checker" and ask for extended ^plan check
- there must be NO ERRORS under no circumstances

Cheers
Jean

Thank you for the insight Jean. I am confident that the switches have different addresses however I don’t believe I have checked their operation from my CS3 just from RR. A health check from RR shows no issues. Next week I’ll review their configuration on my CS3 and if I found no issues then re-establish them in RR. Another quick question if I may…how often should one update the RR software? I have not since I first loaded it a few months back. What precautions should I take before loading an update?

I suspect that this behaviour it related to that the bit of tracks between the two switches is not a block of its own. This may have caused confusion for the route generator so that it has included route commands for both switches. Check the route commands for all routes passing either of the switches. I expect that the issue is solved if you declare the track between the switches a block of its own and rerun the route generator.

As you suggested Jean, I determined that I had an error in switch addressing in RR. As I continued troubleshooting my issue today, I determined that all was well with the way my CS3+ controlled the switches. I then turned my attention to addressing in RR. I must admit that addressing in RR still confuses me.

For this particular switch the MM address is 3. I had originally populated that address in the "address" field in RR. And that worked but did not do so consistently. I have now changed the addressing as is illustrated in the above screen shot and all seems to be working properly. I have much to learn! Thanks to both you and Martti for the help!
