I have visited the Cass RR in West Virginia a couple of times to learn about Shays and watch them run. They are fascinating machines.

I was crazy busy where these were announced and I forgot to follow up. By the time I did they were long gone and I had missed my chance to own one. Maybe someday.
Regards,
Jim

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time.

Sorry, I was asking the weight of Märklin 38700 Shay. I should be clearer on my question.

I have read review at stummiforum report a issue with screw/joint, gear, shafts came loose after 30 minutes running.

Report say M recall? Sold out at Marklin mean stop delivery due to problem?

So, it's basically a 568g paperweight?
Unless you inspect and service it every 15-20 minutes?

Hope they find a reliable solution to the issue.

Do we know if this Shay is a collaboration with another company?

The loco comes from BLI moulds, so probably "Made in China", but couplers, centre-rail slider and decoder are probably Märklin originals.
That's what they call "co-operation".

Tom

The article that was linked over here suggests it would be Vietnam, but I suspect a number of components, such as motors, would be sourced from China.

I am not really concerned by the country of assembly or by the origin of the components. I have many Märklin models made in China which are fine in all respects. I do have a problem with BLI sourced models, which was why I asked the question.

Jim
