Hello. I run M tracks, but I've the opportunity to buy a complete set of K tracks: +/- 140 mixed tracks parts.... ! no powered ones !.... no sure about railway switches. Global package around 60 euros (For me, K and M are equivalent, so I think the offer is good. My idea is to have my outer loops based on K tracks (no signal but switches to enter M inner circuit), while the internal part of my layout (locomotive shed, stations, ...) will be based on M tracks.
Question 1: Do transition parts exist ? Question 2: Can M powered part power K circuit ? Question 3: for switching for K circuit to M one, is the following idea "K_switch -> transition part -> M track" a option ?
(Nb: sorry for my english... when I say 'K switch', I think for instance to part 2262 of marklin K stuff)
Thx Phil

1. Yes, I can't recall the catalogue number off hand, but they do exist. I would hope you get some as part of the complete package seeing they have mixed M and K track. 2. Yes, there is no problem with one type powering the other. 3. You wouldn't normally do that, but if needed it can be done.

Thx. So what is the best workflow to transition from K to M through switches ? Phil

The transition track for M to K is part # 2291, a 180 mm long straight track.

Thx. So what is the best workflow to transition from K to M through switches ? Phil I think this will be difficult to do with only a inner and outer loop, you can not connect a K-switch to a M-switch together, and as said the only transition part available is a straight 180 mm track..... Regards Jean-Pierre

Make sure it is the 2200 series K tracks with SOLID METAL rails. Stay away from the 2100 series that have pressed folded rails that change color more easily when slow corrosion occurs and turns darker color.

I started with M track. In the 1980s I got some K track because you could get larger radii which was important for me to show off my 1/87 Roco coaches. I had a parade layout of R4 and R5 curves with an inside track of M track R2 and R1. By skipping R3, I was able to put the adapter track between the two. I used the M track as a local/regional line and the K track was the mainline. This was all set up as a teppichbahn on the floor from time to time. These days, I am almost exclusively using C track. I went back to the K track when my original C tracks starting cracking, but the newer ones (post-2005) are much less prone to deterioration. For digital operation, the combination of tracks can be problematic, as transitions can cause weak spots that can be damaged with constant power supply. I had one K to M track where one of the little metal pins somehow touched the metal of the M track and this caused a little heat damage without the transformer tripping.

Ok, it is clear now : Kswitch__transition2291__(eventually one M straight like 5106)__Mswitch to enter my internal M circuit. Phil
