Caveat: I have searched here and, hopefully, read as many threads as are archived herein in re 4MFOR. I may have missed 1 or 2, but there is one wee bit that I have not figured out. I do have a few of the 4MFORs. I read about the " 4M" - got that one right on! What does the " FOR" stand for or represent? FOR as in " Forged from Metal"? FOR as in " Force Majeure"? Probably a quick answer and dead obvious, but I am missing the train, so to speak p. s. I did not want to drag one of the old threads back (which as you know is my usual stream of action... ) just for a simple thing not related to the items themselves. Thanks in advance! And even though Mutti M has not technically revived the 4MFOR branding, she does occasionally ( e. g. New Items 2025 pp. 55-56 and 2024 catalogue pp. 33-34 a nod to Era II) offer military items that possess a "passing" resemblance to the bygone 4MFOR (I do note that the 2025 catalog says the vehicles are Schuco...but still! ) p. s. still do not know what that old " FOR" stood for... That does make sense now. I truly was unaware of that particular idiom/abbreviation. Thanks Tom!!
p. s. Note please that I did resist the temptation to cross-link all of the threads from 2007 through 2013 (10+ threads/references) in re 4MFOR ...(You are welcome ) Edited by user 06 April 2025 21:30:06(UTC)

I found another possibility for the " FOR", which is also used: " Force Operations Readiness"" FOR is much easier to say than all those collective syllables Intriguingly, the possibility mentioned by Tom above ( FORce) as well as this one here are all rendered in English, and I have found no "FOR" in the German Military Abbreviations encyclopedia ( I could be mistaken ) Granted, the whole thing could be: A balancing of the logo 4 ( four) M For, per the Marketing Department I wonder if it was ever verbally noted as "Vier"MFOR... or even 4M for you! (Mr Collector!) That would be me... |

So, it is entirely possible that I have missed a reference with the many threads, and for that I apologise in advance. There is another source for this particular genre. This is: Artitechttps://www.artitecshop.com/en/military/ And primarily I think 4MFOR has been, as mentioned previously, a response to Roco Minitanks series (and, perhaps, to...cough, cough ...move some Schuco product) and yet it may be a broader field than I imagined. One could certainly add some Artitec items to an empty car or loading area. Why not? Or: Is Artitec in a class unto themselves? I am not trying to trespass on the properties of those who create fabulous , stunning dioramas of this field (often in other scales than 1:87). That is another artistry altogether. Any thoughts? Just asking for my own information as I work through the labyrinth. Thanks! |

They make very striking trains, and Märklin has made a few camouflage locomotives to pull my consists. I can highly recommend recommend Artitec era 2 rolling stock as well to use with the vehicles. Märklin has made very little of this available since they discontinued #4867. |

As a fan of Basil Fawlty, I try not to mention 'the war'.
That said, I have a 37024 loco hauling a the 45097 unmarked aeroplane set. The grand fantasy is the paint the 45097 set to match the loco. But I don't need or want tanks to go with it. |
