Hi Marklin Enthusiasts, I was given a 44 066 G800 Steamer that had been in a storage locker for an eternity. With initial inspection other than a few paint chips and 2 bent rear Wheel sets on the Tender, it looks great and stored in it's original wood box. After carefully cleaning, oiling & lubing and using my AC Lionel 1033 Transformer....she runs great. But now I am collecting some M track straight & curved(as I have 2 straight sections that came with the Locomotive) Marklin Transformer and some freight cars. I need to replace the Axles which are just mangled(must have been dropped bad) with new ones while keeping the red rimmed wheels which are in terrific shape. Any help with ordering said axles would be greatly appreciated and Thanks!!

Welcome MacDaddy! Wow, I've never seen bent axles before. At least the coupler spring is in tact. How does the motor look? Does it run? May need a good cleaning, oiling, and new brushes? It's a surviver piece that may only need touch up paint to keep it original.

The first thing I did after the physical inspection was to disassemble, clean oil & lube. and the spring for the coupler and the Tender were both in the box which was fortunate and I pulled up a schematic for reference. This was almost like working on my Post War Lionel Fleet except in miniature. I also do HO so going through the progressions was pretty easy. 1. Test track, no power to unit . 2. Clean wheels, pickups, the Brushes were dirty but again in great shape, check connections did a Hot Wire from the Lionel 1033, Light works with minimal movement. 3. Deep cleaning, oil, lube. back on the using Lionel 1033 and it did run great except without the Marklin Transformer it wouldn't shift like an E unit on a Lionel so it ran in reverse....but boy what a shaker and mover. I also found a site on Ebay which carry's Revell Paints for touchup which I found referenced on the Forum. And I'd like to keep the wheels on the tender as they are in great shape and in line with the original piece and I've added the website for the wheels to my favorites. Pretty excited as the G800 is a Monster that could pull alot of freight. Now comes the collecting of the Track, Transformer and Rolling Stock! Thanks for your help!

Wow that 1951 Issue is incredible and looks immaculate. My friend who gave me this loco said his uncle served in the Army in Germany and this was all that was left of his collection and had been in storage for a very long time. My only question is how those Tender Axles got bent as the unit is incredibly built...did someone take a hammer to it Anyway Thank you and I'll update as I progress!
