I don't know how many of you are collecting the Märklin 4590x series of Catalog Wagons, but the bulk of mine (4 out of 5 issued) arrived today from Lokshop (thanks Roland).
These are a nice design with the cover for that years catalog appearing on the wagon.
I noticed the item numbers are 45900 through to 45904, with 45905 as being the yet to be issued 1935 catalog wagon.
However, the years represented are 1929 (45900) through to 1933 (45904), which begs the question Why is there no 1934 wagon?
There were no Märklin catalogs produced from 1941 to 1946 because of WWII, but there was a catalog for 1934.
Anyone know the reason?

Although I have a picture of a 1934 catalog cover (see below), I could not locate an actual catalog. Since there's no date on the catalog cover, maybe there was a plan to release a catalog but it never materialized and the year was skipped. Just speculation on my part. Hello David, I believe it possible that 45905 will be for 1934. That appears to be possible following the number series. Many catalogue wagons were produced around late 1990s, sometimes with issue numbers as low as 3,000. I have a 1929 version 4680.900 produced in 1997. 4680.901 for 1932 is currently advertised at eBay saleThe 1934 catalogue seems to be well known from the number of images available. Kimball |

Hi Kimball, 45905 is definitely reserved for the 1935 catalog wagon - see the attached screenshot of the Marklin product database entry for 45905.  I've also attached a copy of the 1934 Marklin catalog for those who haven't seen it.  Marklin 1934_Catalog_DE-1.pdf (13,928kb) downloaded 39 time(s). I bought the first 3 and they are good. I will by some more but not sure about until when.
I started buy them for being pulled by the CCS 700, so, maybe more 3...

It would be great if you could provide links or references to theses. So far, I've been unable to find one. The only reference to something from 1934 is a picture (see my post above) of a "phantom" catalogue, but no real catalogue. Cheers, Andry |

Ummm....look in post #4 in this thread.
I uploaded the 1934 catalog there in two files as I had to split it into two so as to be able to stay under the file size limit for the forum.

I noticed the links at the end. I guess that must be the 1934 -- judging by the front picture, which is the same as the one in my initial post.
But how come there are no dates (that I can see) on all these early catalogs? Are they hidden somewhere, or was it just not important at the time? Funny thing one can learn from these forums...
