Are there anyone else on this forum who have been just as stupid as me and bought the 55990 Big Boy from Märklin?
I love the real Big Boy, and the H0 scale Big Boys from Märklin are great. So I decided to get the 1:32 model in spite of the Big Boy price tag.

On the right side, there is a moving part. I think it's called the reverser. It moves one direction when the locomotive starts going forward, and the opposite way when backing up. Sometimes it catches on something and makes a jerk and a click-sound. Most of the time it works smoothly and without a sound. I'm curious if anyone else who has the model has experienced the same?

The real thing has two independent engines. In low speed they are not necessarily synchronized. Are there two motors in the Marklin Gauge 1. If so, does the chuff-sound follow each engine or does it always sound like a locomotive with one engine?
To me, the sound of the engines going in and out of sync is very special.

Thank you for your answer. I have watched a couple of more short videos and heard one saying that it has two motors. But so far just the sound of one steam engine. I have the MTH 1:32 version from 2006. It has the sound and smoke from the two independent engines. As I recall the MTH H0 version has it too.
I hope that the reverser is just something that will disappear after some use. My Big Boy don’t have that feature.

@kiwiAlan - the dealer in Stockholm has told me to do my MRR-shopping elsewhere, after I bought models for €20-30,000 in his shop over the last 4-5 years.

I intend to follow his advise.
