This left set has hex screwdrivers from 2 mm in size upwards, its box was similar to the one on the right, but it was accidentally torn.

Very happy that everything went well. I guess the Big Boy is a bit scary to work on because of the dimensions. It's not a model that one quickly moves around even with two hands.
Also if you had wanted to use Loctite the wheel would have had to be pulled off the axle, loctite applied and then the wheel pressed back on and placed in the right position.

It is easy to magnetize any ferrous tool. The simplest way is simply to rub it in one direction with a magnet. The other way is to point it north and strike it with a second ferrous item However if you need a magnetic tool and don't want to do either just attach a magnet to it. Supposedly you can also demagnetize a tool by holding it north in a north/south direction and striking it with another ferrous tool.

It is good to hear that you have that Big Boy running again. They are strong engines and both of mine have pulled all of my American freight wagons - 63 in total - as well as a caboose a few times. Even with all of those wagons it pulls as well as it does with nothing behind it. The Marklin model is very strong, just like the prototype. Enjoy! |
