About a year ago I heard about these magnetic couplers and as I have had many issues with various couplers, especially Marklin couplers, I thought I'd give these magnetic ones a try. I tried many sources to buy them, however they were sold out and Hornby was also out of stock. I then had forgotten about them and suddenly I saw that they were available from my local store in Sydney (Hobbyco) and proceeded to buy some. I installed them into 2 locomotives and some carriages, both long passenger and shorter freight carriages. One train had 5 passenger carriages and the other 10 freight wagons. The results were astounding - there was a much better movement of the trains on the layout and none of the carriages uncoupled, even when going up a 3% incline or when going around radius 1 curves or "S" bends. I was impressed. Also, you can couple the carriages on a curve which is impossible with Marklin couplers.
Why doesn't Marklin make these couplers ????!!!! My assumption is that they are not prototypical and who gives a "Rats" if they aren't.
This is my opinion and I have not connection with Hornby or Hobbyco.
I will slowly replace the Marklin couplers.

Hi Greg,
Have you found a train length (weight) limit for these couplers. Twenty cars on a grade is a lot different than 5 on the level.

I now have acquired some more of these magnetic couplers and I have 4 long passenger wagons and 8 coal wagons been driven by my Big Boy loco without any uncoupling. The only minor criticism I have is that the prongs that connect into the NEM sockets are rounded and need to be slightly flattened so that the coupling hooks better to the NEM socket. So I will be replacing all my wagons where possible, with these couplings. They might be expensive, however they work a lot better.
