I have been running an old 3000 model loco and an F44039 for the last couple of weeks. Neither had been run for many years but seemed to be doing fine. All of a sudden both are having problems. Does anyone have a shop that works on Marklin engines? I live in an area of New Mexico where we don’t have services like this.

Hi
I guess that both locos, because of inactivity, have some greasy deposits in the axles which make a poor ground return.
One simple solution is to lubricate the driving axles and then, let them run for half an hour in both direction
Then, wipe out the oily residue out of the axles.
At the beginning they will stop all the time but after a while it will improve a lot

For engines that have been kept in boxes for decades I first remove the motor shield and rotor and then wash them with WD-40 until I get axles and distribution to move freely. Once this is done I dry up as much as possible the excess of WD-40, reassemble everything and put back on tracks. Let them run for a bit, in both directions, at low speed and then apply a drop of oil on each side of the axle and start running them at medium speed and high speed in both directions. Job done.

I would contact AJCKids in Texas or maybe one of the dealers in Colorado
Rick and Curtis might also be a good place to get assistance
As far as your models, what problem exactly are they having? (Both the same or different issues?)
You could try checking to see that the rails are clean and that the contacts between track sections are ok,
You can clean the slider with rubbing alcohol and check the axle contacts to make sure there is no dirt/lint

AJCKids is located in Wichita Falls, Texas and Guy is an expert at Marklin repair. I would first try the cleaning tips suggested above though, which is a good way to get acquainted with those locos. Unfortunately I live near Glenwood Springs, CO or I would swing by or have you come over to look at them. I do all my own repairs. If you don’t have any luck with finding someone to repair them I could take a look at them (not charging anything for it) or we could do a google meet or face time and I could walk you through it to see if it is something simple to fix or clean.
