Bought this on eBay, worked fine for one lap and just died completely. No lights no movement. I’m thinking it’s a bad generator I appreciate and suggestions on repairing this locomotive.470152667_10235278071278458_6845602599119583144_n.jpg

A bit sparse Info, I'm afraid.
What make? Does voltage show up at the motor, the decoder, the reverser? Do the slider(s) have contact? Does the motor turn with voltage applied directly? Is it "Dreileiter" or two track?
Regards,
Rüdiger (Rudi)

Hi Rick
Your train looks very similar to the Märklin "CargoSprinter" 37090
Here is the exploded view diagram
https://www.maerklin.de/service/...lnummer=37090&lang=1
It was released in 2000, has an FX decoder, no sound

The train was fitted with one motorized head and another unmotorized and a slider inversion system.
This works ONLY if both heads are connected together. The motorized head may work alone but ONLY forwards. As soon as you reverse it, it switches to the slider at the other end of the train AND - IF NOT CONNECTED - becomes dead.

Insert only the wagons specially fitted with current conducting couplers
Other possibilities are:
- a fried decoder because a blue Märklin transformer was used
- a current pick-up issue
- a dirty motor

More details on the model here
http:/https://www.maerkl...e/details/article/37090/
Cheers
Jean

Sorry for the sparse info

its the Marklin 37090 Cargo Sprinter, When I place it on the track there is spark or anything. It has a grinder on the bottom Im guessing 3 track. It worked fine for a lap and just stopped and havent worked since.

I gues Rick means decoder by "generator", and slider by grinder?

Generatore, the motor that spins the wheels.

Grinder seems to be a fairly literal translation from the German for the slider. I have come across this translation many times in the past.

Deutshe' is "schlafer". Shoe or slider. If you order one from Marklin USA, it is a pick-up shoe.

*UPDATE*
So I reconnect with the other locomotive I’m hearing a buzzing sound then it stops. No lights or movement. I think I may have a bad decoder. Since it’s outdated. I’m thinking of updating to a modern decoder. Any recommendations?

What happens when you reverse direction? The set was designed to pick up power from the leading slider. See if the unit works again.
Can you tell where the buzzing is coming from? Does it sound like a motor trying to turn or does it sound like a short circuit?
Is it coming from the car with the motor or from the other end?

As far as changing the decoder, this was not a model with a PC board with a 8, 16 or 22pin plug-in decoder. You may have to find a solution that would include some kind of replacement for the board as well.

I think that the locomotive is having trouble going straight up... Your video needs to be rotated ;)

First thing to do is to remove the container (cover) for the motor. Then do what you did in the video again. Try to determine whether the buzzing is coming from the motor or from the body of the car, where the circuit board and decoder are located. It might also help to connect both cab units and test again.

Does it sound like the motor is trying to turn?
If that is the case, don't try to force it and power down.

Mike C
