Telex E117993 AUX output settings with mSD decoder

Hi Now I have read here and on other forums... There are many suggtions for AUX output settings, but has Märklin mentioned anything in writing? So what is considered the right attitude Off topic, You can connect two telexes in series to a single AUX output. |

Hi Jonas I like those Telexes E117993 I have read many things about them here in France, in Germany (Stummi forum, etc) and here is what I have learned. - mapping the Telex output as a Telex is the safest way (AND IS recommended by Märklin) but there is a drawback: when using Rocrail for automatic operation, the delay on some locos to go away is bigger than the Telex timeout resulting in failed decoupling attempt. - mapping the Telex as a timed output works fine (I set to 8 seconds) but is NOT 100% safe (no local logic but a CS3 or CS2-based protection Cheers Jean |

Hi Jean, Märklin's recommendation to use the Telex Coupler mode does not mention changing the 255 dimmer or the 20 (1.00s) as the default Period [0.05s] value. I haven't found any documentation from Märklin about AUX settings. Their models do not connect the Telex leash directly to the AUX output. However, the timeout function should be included in the Telex Coupler settings rules, even if it's not used in their own SUSI configuration. Leaving the button activated on older Märklin models 37679 with this leash will cause continuous operation until you turn it off. Sometimes I notice a burning smell, and I wonder if the dimmer value should be lower perhaps 40. However, if selected, the Telex leash would have altered the values in mDT3 or CS3. |

If you set the dimmer to a lower value then 255, the coupling produces a vibrating sound that intensifies as the value decreases.
My settings will be as follows: Dimmer = 255 Period = 160 (8.00s) |

Hello Jonas, This is not directly related to the Marklin decoder because I use mostly LokSound decoders, but it might help you in setting some parameters. I have used the Telex E117993 coupler in a few locos. In my opinion, these Telex couplers work really well. BTW, I program my locos to do the "uncoupling dance" routine. Here's a screenshot of the decoder parameters in my LokSound 5. Good luck! Andry |

Hi Andry/All, I have limited my timeout function to 4 seconds and coupler force to 15 which works well for me. I have about a dozen locos that are fitted with these Telex uncouplers and I use the same settings for all of them. I guess I follow the saying "if it aint broke, don't fix it"! Cheers, |

Indeed, a variety of outcomes can be expected when adjusting ESU settings. However, the dimmer (power) should be set to 255; otherwise, the coupling starts to produce noise. My most recent project completion features an old Swedish-style V engine. Märklin mSD3 with Märklin TelexInside the mDT3, there is a sound directory for the V36 Motor which can be utilized in conjunction with the V60 project.ESU LokSound 5 with Märklin TelexESU has indeed provided instructions for their Telex coupler, similar to what one would expect from Märklin when they sell various parts. |

Hi Jonas/All, The noise you get by reducing the power is very small and is done to reduce burn out of the coil. I am experimenting with the ESU 41002 coupler and in the instructions ESU recommend reducing the power to a value of 21. Reducing the power on the Märklin E117993 coupler isn't a problem for me but the coupler is bulky and random uncoupling happens to me alot so I'm looking for an alternative option. Hi Andry/All, I have only started testing and it all seems to be working well at the moment, time will tell. You maybe interested in an English translation of the instructions I managed with the help of Google, I added English diagrams of the Lokprogrammer settings. ESU 41002 digital UncouplerThe reasons and method used can be found in the article Translate Foreign language PDF file to EnglishHope this helps Originally Posted by: Kiko Originally Posted by: Ross I am experimenting with the ESU 41002 coupler Hello Ross, I have just received (after a very long wait) the ESU 41002 couplers and also plan to experiment with them. Maybe have a look at this one announced on Stummis New items recently.

On the locomotives I have, that have the E117993, I have dimmed it down to approx 60 (using marklin mLD3/mSD3). This together with a short period and that I have added coupler waltz to most of them. I have noticed marklin also has the E117993 directly on the decoder aux and as just a regular function, without dimming and periods etc. So if E117993 is on susi, its probably just coincidence etc.

It looks like it is almost as thin as the current Marklin one that you can't buy as a spare. Did you check the video (click on the movie arrow that appears when you mouse-over)? Probably worth getting a pair at Euro 50 to try out.

Probably worth getting a pair at Euro 50 to try out. Hello Alan, Yes, I looked at the video. They bang that loco against the freight car pretty hard. I usually try to "sneak up" when coupling. The ESU "dance routine" is very smooth and slow, so I'm wondering if these couplers would work just as well. I guess someone needs to try it out and report. 50 euros is quite expensive, but they might be worth it (i.e., for looks at least) and hopefully for function as well. I'll wait till I read some reviews. Thanks for pointing these out. Cheers, Andry |

Hi Alan/All, The cost of 50 euros for a pair is way too high. The ESU 41002 cost 24 Euro for a pair. Originally Posted by: kiwiAlan Originally Posted by: Kiko Originally Posted by: kiwiAlan Cheers, Andry Probably worth getting a pair at Euro 50 to try out. |
