Hi everyone! I am looking at buying a used Marklin Loco that appears to have been converted from Analogue to Digital.

But I would like to use it on my analogue system.

What is involved in removing the digital conversion? Is that possible?

Well, the digital converted loco could actually behave nicer on your analogue layout, than as an analogue loco! Smoother running, and even better if also the motor has been upgraded from 3 poles to 5 poles when converted. Smoother direction switch etc. However, there are a few heads-ups:

(1) If you have the ”blue” or even older transformers, the power from a direction switch event could damage the decoder.

(2) Analogue mode could have been disabled on the decoder. I do this myself on some locos to prevent them from running uncontrolled at short circuit events. Analogue mode can be enabled using a digital controller.

So, I wouldn’t hesitate trying the digital loco on an analogue layout! Smile

Hi

I did it on an old 3322. The only real change needed was to remove the decoder and fit a standard reverser unit.

I also took the opportunity to wire the lamps as directional.

So I would say it depends on the loco and what has been done to modify it for digital.

Why analogize, I wondered. Then I read your signature 😄
