Hello, I have an older 1 gauge Marklin BR80 tank locomotive that has an old decoder with an 8 position dip switch to use to set the address, I guess it is Delta?

My question is does anybody have the guide or knowledge to tell me how to set the train to different addresses? I remember from before that there is a code to use...

Second question, can I run this locomotive using a Marklin mobile station2?

I am just learning how to work the Marklin digital system and for me, being analog and or digitrax for a long time it takes some getting use to.

Thanks guys for all your help!

-Todd

Hi Todd
A picture would help as there are two types of Märklin digital for 1 gauge:
- recent units 2000 and after which use the same digital signal as HO ones
- older units from 1993 until around 1998 or so use a specific digital signal, specific central unit and booster (6030 Central Control1, 6018 Bososter 1) and addresses are modified using a programmer 6032.

So chances are your decoder belongs to the more recent decoder family.
Switch positions are standard (even for Delta but then only a few addresses will respond but usually Delta decoders have only 4 switches)
Look on page 19 of this manual for switch positions and corresponding addresses
6021 manual
All address changes to be made while power is OFF.

Cheers
Jean

Thank you for the response.
Here are 3 pictures to help out our conversation.

I own a power supply going to a Marklin #60114 Digital Junction Box and a Marklin Mobile Station 2.

I realize that I could take out the electronics shown and add a modern digital decoder, like a Massoth or otherwise
and the mobile station 2 would run it fine. However, this locomotive is mostly just for testing a layout that I am building, so I am interested to gain the knowledge of
how to make it work, if possible, with the mobile station 2.

*First picture- there is a 3 position switch as shown in the positioned to the left. I can move it to the middle position or all the way to the right position.
Not sure what it does or what position it needs to be left into?

*Second picture- There is the decoder with 8 dip switches, currently set with switch 1 in the "on" position and all others in the "off" position.
Not sure how to set this.

*Third picture is of the motor in case you need to see it.

Thank you for your help,
Todd

Maybe I confused everybody, I got the pictures to work, not the train, lol.
Still looking for info on this decoder, etc. as stated above. Thanks experts.

Hi Todd
It looks like this decoder 6085 or C85 (here extracted from the 1993 Catalogue) but apparently it is not exactly the same
Sans titre.png

This decoder 6085 DOES NOT work on normal Märklin (MM2, MFX, MFX+).
It says it works with a specifically developped Central Control 1 an d its address can be changed by a special.
Searching how close this "old" protocol is from DCC I cannot find any valid result
Cheers

After some research I suggest you power your loco ALONE with your MS2 / 60116 track box and set yourself in the discover mode.
The MS2 will search in all 3 protocols MM2, DCC, MFX what is the address.
Cheers

Thanks Jean, I have tried that and it comes up with no loco present....

I might just use it to add Massoth sound and smoke since it is so clean and didn't cost a whole lot.

Maybe somebody else on here has the answer, we will wait and see, thanks for your research and help,
Todd

If it has the dip switches you should be able to select an address per the table and then find that address with your controller. Or am I missing something?

If you're missing something Chris then so am I.
Switch one being on and all the others off = code 78 doesn't it?

I assume Todd must have tried this but if not just create a locomotive with code 78 and see what happens.

That is also the switch position code for Delta locomotive number 1 when using a delta controller but I don't think that applies in this case.

Paul
Marklin HO using M track. Now reverted to analogue as I find it has more character and is more fun...... and I understand it!

Concerning the 6085 I found this:
https://www.marklin-user...-5501-T3-Decoder-Problem
Seems that 6085 is an early DCC decoder with register programmation...
and this makes me think that your decoder is NOT a 6085.

After a little research I found this :
http://www.web-hgh.de/in...h.de/p03_maedig_c95x.htm
I think yours is the second photo - clearly a 6095, which is commanded in MM2

So if your decoder is ok you should be able to command it on address 78, since you activated just the switch n°1.

Thanks guys for all of your help.

I now have the locomotive running and the lights work as they should.
Every once in a while I have noticed that after turning down the speed to 0 the locomotive still wants to keep moving slowly. Obviously, hitting the stop button keeps it at a standstill, but I found this strange.

I have one other locomotive in gauge 1, a Baden P8 with sound. It works flawlessly on the same layout with no problems, so maybe there is something up with the BR 80's decoder?

Anyway, all good for now, thanks again for the help walking me through this :)
