Wrong boiler, wrong tender Cool
Yes the ref 39020, 39024 and 39025 are close relatives indeed. But they are NOT like the 18 316 or 18 323.

Be patient, the mystery will soon be solved!

Interesting but good choiceThumpUp, had kind of expected a model of the 18.316, with the extended smoke box.
And since 18.323 has a "standard" 18.3 boiler I assume Märklin plans to release more IVh/18.3's with dynamic smoke and new tooling. quite promising Cool

Quite tempted by the 38323Drool

Hello,

Why? Are you a speculation fan maybe?
On the contrary, I hope there will be plenty to satisfy everybody and make prices go down.

Tired of seing people buying new locomotives just to sell them afterwards and try to speculate/make additional profits.

We’re talking about about a hobby. Make sure it stays a hobby.

Gentlemen, Dreileiters,
It's a bit of a hypocrisy on Marklin's part to charge 679 MSRP Euros for a another BR18 regular model - Steam engine , frankly if only Marklin had a dynamic smoke and a Maxxon or SB motor in it , or they would have new model S3 or Pm 11 Eg: maybe I would be tempted, but for a regular model with a sound decoder 679 euros is a horror...
What are they thinking…. In today’s recession and inflation going through the roof? Sorry I won’t be supporting Märklin shareholders… they need a bucket of cold water.
Regards,
Marklineisenbahn

The loco is nice, but agree with the comments about the price. I bought recently the 18.5, yes without dynamic steam but price was 450€, considerably less.

To defend at some point extent Märklin, I must say as well that inflation in Europe got crazy, for the day to day items prices increased dramatically, far beyond the official figures. So we are paying things for 40% or 50% more than we were paying 3-4 years ago.

And Germany in particular is paying now a high toll for their energy policy of the last years. So in short the inflation that Märklin items have had is not so far from other products here in Europe.

The locomotive has dynamic smoke exhaust that varies with the locomotive speed and is digitally controlled.
It also has some details like pipes under the cabin that have 2 positions (display/running modes) and basically it has all features.
I don't discuss which locomotive looks better.

I like this locomotive, but I don't think I will go for it as, for such price, I must feel that it is the version I really want. This is one
doesn't have silver stripes, so I will wait for one with silver stripes (in case that will be possible and I am not more tempted for other locomotive when such a version appears).
Anyway, it is a great looking and operative locomotive (I like most BR 18.n) and I understand many will go for it.

Miguel

I just got a reseve order email from a domestic dealer. $659 US. Still very expensive. Believe me, I've been addicted to the hobby and it can be like crack. Some will spend any amount, but I am at the age now where my income does not rise enough with inflation, so I have to watch it. I think that's the main issue because the new models with the sequential smoke and such are great if they operate properly.

Hey,

It is not "just another BR 18" since the BR 18 groups all pacific types from before 1919, saxonian, bavarian and others...

Since it is far from my theme and costs a lot of money I will not purchase it but I am happy for all who waited for this type since the DR version was presented.
The DB locos were largely revised with major visible changings so you could not simply adapt a DR model to DB.

Nice model, but I'll pass. Maybe the price is reasonable for the features and the effort needed to manufacture it, but close to 7 bills is too rich for my blood.

There are hobbyist and collectors who say: have to have it, I've past this many years ago., I'm surprised that I still buy locos in my age (80), looks like I haven't totally got rid of the idea: have to have it

I'll convert a BR 18 with all the extras for half the priceBigGrin , it also could be the price already includes the manufacturing costs for the next project

Hello,

The BR 18.3 is an impressive model, although I wait for one like the one in the video. It is a Liliput: they have extreme detail, but 25 (or so) years ago I bought one and it quickly transformed in a pack of parts.
I hope Liliput is more robust now, but I have no idea. I bought some wagons without bogies (just 2 axles) and they were and still are very good, just needed to shorten the wheels distance in each axle.
Below the Youtube video of channel "Model Train Collector".

Well, I'm 63 and I'm still an addict, having bought the Albatross, Flying Scotsman, And Est Serie 13. What's the use of money if you never spend any of it? I'll probably buy my last loco right before I get on the train to my final destination (Grim Reaper Central Station).

That said, I'm not going to drop that kind of money when there are already 9 Pacifics in my fleet.
