Lutz, what software version have you got?

Mine is 1.0.7(3)(2nd version) and I do have a major issue: my 2 boosters are not working, as you know. Is your version free of this problem?

Lutz,

My CS 2 appears to be OK. If the loco list is limited to 90 that is not a problem as I dont think I will ever own as many locos and if I did I doubt I would have them all on the layout.
The warranty claim as descibed above does not apply to Marklin bought in the UK. If for example your key board is not right then you get a refund from the dealer or if you wish a replacement. The choice is that of the customer.

I am curious & impatient to know in which way 2 CS2 are working together , how do they communicate together with the layout , etc...

IE : what happens on CS2-1 while you call one Lok which is registered on CS2-2 or while it is already called on CS2-2 (if possible)and how it reacts , etc, etc,...

James,

When a company is insolvent it still exist but is protected from people demanding money (back). Dealers are not responsible to provide technical guarantee when the original manufacturar of the product is bust. However, in case the dealer made "lies" during the selling arguments then he is liable for a refund.

In short, the best lawyer wins when subsidairies are involved.

However knowledgeable and well-connected the hearsay source wink, it's still hearsay. Having it from Märklin direct, it's the real - and very disappointing - thing.

I am happy to wait until April as my CS2 works fine. I can see however that it is not good business to change dates and that will annoy customers which at this time is the last thing Marklin would want.
Perhaps if a reason for the delay was given which was important to ensure an even better CS2 then that would keep everybody happy.
I enjoy this controller and look forward to the update in April.

I think Lutz might have some good information. And I can wait, since I really enjoy the CS2. I do not want to worry about it and get my blood pressure up. All taht will do is shorten one's life.

I am not going to get excited about trying to dig into someones post to see if the information is fit to be used on Perry Masonn reruns as evidence. That does not add to anything at all.

I wouldn´t saying like that,Lutz...!
Because of the warranty dissapears after 1(?) year for CS2.
So the longer time it takes, the worse becomes for customer with CS2.

I've got my response two weeks before you - as well directly from Märklin. That was official for me already at that time. I also shared this official Märklin information with the forum then. Your information, not really anything new, just confirmed with substantial delay what was already known.

The latest Digital Newsletter (1-09) had this to say about the v1.0.7 update.

"Software Update 1.0.7

At the time of the printing of this Newsletter, the 1.0.7 update was not yet ready but had been
available for a short time and then taken off the update webpage while some software bugs were
being fixed. When it is available again it will have a couple of updates including: 1) the English
keyboard will be fixed, 2) provisions will be available to add DCC controlled locomotives to your list,
and 3) loco icons will be able to be added to the picture list.
Adding loco icons is quite easy. First, create one or select one from a source like the web page
mentioned in the “Loco Cards” article given earlier. Second, include that loco as a “.png” file with an
appropriate name or number in a file folder titled “icons”. Third, put that file on a USB memory stick
and install the icons the same way you would update the software of the Central Station with the
“Update” menu in the “Setup” screen."

Goofy. I am not sure if this warranty applies to countries outside Germany. At some point I think they repalced decoders which were freid by the user but I expect with the cost of sound versions this no longer is available.

he doesn't, but that's not important anyways as the CS1 3.0 reloaded isn't the topic of this thread. wink

Yes Märklin could have resolved all the speculation that spins at various forums by creating a useful support forum on their own homepage.

Which themselves had been able to receive and respond to different problems.

Today you can get the most amazing solutions that answer if you send questions to their support center as the internal knowledge is probably no further.

Märklin is still owing me € 260 for a number of transportation cost to repair both CS1 and now CS2/booster but nobody wants to take responsibility for that "hot potato" question so they don’t answer. Is this a good customer relationship after 30years enjoying my hobby. How much pain-time-money should we need sacrifice to get this product running?

Hello All:

So am I to understand that the CS2 update is now unavailable until May or June?

If so, then I for one, am going to return my CS2 for a refund. This inability to correct a software glitch is less than satisfactory.

They keep putting off the "fix". First it was supposed to be out in the new year, then they said it would be out out right after Nurnberg, then it it was April, now May or June. May or June of what year, 2011?

After 40+ years of using Marklin, I'm thinking it's time to switch to 2 rail. I'm sick and tired of all of the bulls**t coming out of Germany these days. Like a GM or Chrysler product, it's time to switch to a Toyota

Could be April then which is Q2. But then again it only 'should' be available so maybe May or June and even Q3. Hopefully 2009.
Probably best to wait until it appears on the website and let somebody download first to ensure it actually works.

There is a thread where M says update is available on 22nd April.
This is very much their last chance to get things right.
If there is another delay or the update has bugs then sales of the CS2 will be badly hit. There are many waiting (some on this site) to see how things go before buying.
I find my CS2 to be an excellent controller and hope that the back up from Marklin will now be the same.
The new people now running the firm ... if any .. can now show us how good they are.

I've read, with interest, this topic, and I find it interesting that Marklin have resorted to the selling skills of so many multi-national companies - i.e. you sell the product and then you iron out the bugs. Microsoft and Bill Gates has been doing this for over 20 years - and we still buy our computer operating systems. That's right - we buy the "fixed" version. Now, we want Marklin to give us for nothing the "fixed" updates. I'm just joking. I believe that we should be given the product that is advertised it will do, however, I've been dabbling in computers since 1969 and it has always fasinated me that someone like Bill Gates, can get away with what he has done. So, other businesses say to themselves, "If Bill can do it, why can't we"?
If computer software is involved, then it will never be resolved - it's all too complex for us mortals. My policy is - "If its working well enough, then that's good enough." Otherwise you'll go around the bend - afterall, we are only playing trains. biggrinbiggrin
Take it easy . . . . or any other way you can get it !!!!

Personally, I think it is odd that they would prefer to release an update together and wait out a show to get their own PR satisfied instead of the customers who have already purchased equipment since almost a year.

But that’s a greatness with Märklin because they newer have any direct dialogue with their customer [}:)]
