I just received this email from my dealer:

Märklin cancels some starter sets from the 2009 New Items program

I was just informed that Märklin has decided to NOT produce a number of starter sets from their 2009 New Items manufacturing program.

Here is the information I received today:

Dear Märklin/Trix Dealer:

Märklin GmbH has made the following announcement regarding the starter set program:

Under consideration of the current situation of our company, the production program of this year's starter set assortment had to undergo a critical analysis. Therefore, the following starter sets are taken off the current offer:

What a pity. I had my eyes on the Swiss mega starter set. That way I would have got 2 new MS.

Hi Gautham,

Thanks for your contribution, it's a good translation of information which is already heavily discussed in the forum, see this topic:
https://www.marklin-user...ult.aspx?g=posts&t=12374
Perhaps it is better to continue an eventual discussion there.

I have put all purchases on hold - because the swedish currency is not worth much right now. Everything we import from the Euro-zone is 20% more expensive than a year ago. Hope this will change back to more normal levels, then I can buy more trains...

Same thing here, although I'm told our currency has gone back to what it was 5 or 6 years ago. Our currency has devalued about 30% against the euro. Maybe we have had it too good!

It's OT, but why wouldn't you buy 80% of what you were planning if the currency is down 20%? Don't know if all your expenses have gone up 20% (mortgage rates have gone up much more here)so then this wouldn't work.

I decided anyway to order a fully loaded BR 23. Not that my single order will get my dealer or M* through the depression but maybe it helps. And I want it. Who knows if it's the last of the Mohicans? Hope not but if it might be, I did my thing.
Regards, Henk.

There is a good reason why you want to wait, if you live in Sweden. The Swedish Krona has lost 25 - 30 % to the Euro, but if you look at economic fundamenta, it ought to be the Euro that should become cheaper. Therefore, the current depression of the Krona is not expected to last very long. Maybe it will change already in a few months. So why buy 80 % now when you expect to be able to buy 100 % or more sometime later.

I have not hesitated to put pre-orders on new Märklin items, because I expect the exchange rate to get more back to normal before Märklin are able to deliver. For items already in stock, I am waiting with my orders however.

The situation can be completely different in other countries where the exchange rate changes could have another and less up-side-down relation to economic facts than here.
