According to posts at Stummi-forum, the following 2009 News items will not be produced:

29011, 29019, 29150, 29477, 29482, 29610, 55038 and 55039

This is still to be confirmed, but given the source as described on the forum, it seems to be credible.
Cheers,
Søren

Very possible. Why would they need so many starter sets? Taking away the six mentioned still leaves 5 sets, which is more than enough.

Shame about the Swiss one, though. It looked really nice.

I was considering the 29019 and 29482 also.. I though they were good value for the money. Especially the first one, had a Re 4/4 IV with mfx and sound.. something new.

Yes, its a real shame about the 29019. I was looking forward to it. Its only a minor setback however, since there are plenty of other sets with the MS2 to chose from.

It's a pity for the Swiss 29019 !
well, it seems that all startset with MS2 should be cancelled !
Some problems to produce the MS2 ?

Only one startset remains with MS2 : the big one ( 3 loks )Is it because its delivery was planned later ?

I would suspect that most new developments are in a state of suspended animation until the future of Marklin becomes clearer. It is unlikely that any capital expenditure would be autherised by the liquidators unless there was a chance of a return on the money invested.

If it proves impossible to reconstruct Märklin we wouldn't have seen these start-sets at all. But if Mr Pluta is successful, we'll see plenty of startsets in 2010 instead. I understand that those who were planning a purchase are disappointed, but it could have been worse...

No way!
With 29019 you were getting two full mfx locos (with sound and all), four rollende landstrasse cars, four freight cars, two MS2, transformer and track for 549 Euros: only 100 Euros more than the 37320 two loco package and only one with sound.

I thought it was a great bargain price.. maybe too good to be true. It may be the reason that they will not produce them: margins too little on these sets.

I think so .

All which is destroying their brand image & destroying what makes Marklin unique , should be a disaster .
The partnership with ESU was something poisonnous & sour mainly because ESU didn't care about Marklin 's specificity and help to introduce the process they use to developp for the DCC world .For a decoder manufacturer a grilled decoder means to replace a cheap electronic piece. In DCC world you may have 10/15% faulty decoders , they just give you another one.
For Marklin , a faulty decoder means you have to bring back a whole model and they have to replace ( or repair) a whole Locomotive . That's why there were not such problems with Marklin-digital decoders (6090, 609xx ) : strong, simple, good design...etc...etc..(Marklin minded)
That's the reason why a company like Marklin cannot work with the same standards as a simple decoder manufacturer. That's the reason - I think - why you may find some cheap DCC decoders too...

One wonders why don't they equipp the Marklin locos with the 8 pin or 21 pin connectors? it would be very simple to switch the faulty decoder then...

But if this is the case, I guess I better go off and get the 29481 instead.

One quick question pertaining to this thread about cancelled or delayed production.

As Maerklin Hungary and the plant in Gyoer is not entirely covered by the bankruptcy, what control does Herr Pluta and his management have over this plant and the significant amount of production coming from Hungary?

It also makes sense that some projects in development will be shelved in order to reduce the amount of expenditures, as the company is likely to focus on activities that bring a rapid influx of capital rather than long term investments.

If anybody is interested in the 29482 Set with the Re 421, they can always opt for the currently available 29481 or the lok itself from eBay or some dealers in CH.

Regards

Guys,
While disappointing I have to point out some good new in this:

1: While a bargain for collectors, what little kid gets a $600 start set? I'm sure 80% or more of end users for the big sets were collectors not children.A bummer for us, but I'm sure these sets weren't very profitable compared to selling individual compenents.
2: Looney Tunes set is a bummer, but that probably saved a large licensing fee.
3: Same with new controls.

I see this as a sign of proper management- finally. Do we really need 500 new items every year? No, not at all. of course we like the selection and variety but it is too much for the manufacturer. If they don't have enough orders they shouldn't make it. If you look at a catalogue from the 60's or 70's its maybe a dozen or so things new each year. This is easy to manufacture and for us with limited budget it is easier to keep up with our wish lists.

The flip side is they need to produce all of this or they will loose market share, but I think if they do a few cool new pieces each year along with some repaints (which require minimal investment for M.)it is fine by me- as long as a few of therm are Swiss biggrin

Precisely what I felt for a while now..

I think they should cut down on the number of “one time serries” limited production offering. It doesn’t really work after a while. If a customer is not buying them now, doesn’t mean that he/she won’t buy them later – in second hand market where Marklin made no profit and speculators gained to cash thanks to the “one time serries” special. Other people just going to sit tight and wait until the model become available in the standard programme item – which is of course, unavoidable since the toolings and/or colour scheme will have to be re-used anyway.

For controllers – I also wondered why Marklin would introduce CS2 and MS2 so early. Don’t get wrong, I think they are great. But the older CS and MS have only been around for a few years, and unlike PC users, most won’t buy one too many new controllers every few years. And why can’t they get a rebadged / slightly modified ECOs or any other controller anyway to save production cost?
I mean, is there any other MRR manufacturer that produce such comprehensive system as Marklin does? Maybe herein one of the problems.

Now the funny thing is they have discontinued most of the 2008 starter sets in expectation of these (almost certainly) cancelled sets. What are they going offer now for 2009 to replace them?

Marklin really can't not having any starter set available, especially for new customers.
Now collecting C-Sine models.

Regarding the CS2 and MS2 issue. The answer is very simple. The MS and CS were developed in cooperation with ESU. Since ESU and Maerklin are no longer working together, Maerklin had to develop a replacement product for these items, hence the new versions.

Gentlemen,

whilst it is disapointing for those who were looking to buy some of these sets. It is most likely part of a product rationalisation that Marklin have no choice but to do.
Probably it won't effect the sales of sets to genuine beginners, as they will buy a set anyway just to get started.
What it will do is enable marklin to reduce inventory costs by having fewer product lines and reduce the complexity of co-ordinating excessive numbers of production runs.
I would not be at all suprised to see some other lines cancelled also.

Prehaps then Marklin will be able to focus on what I mentioned last year, of actually delivering product in a timely fashion.

Cheers....

Mike.

I hope that they are being shipped, because we still have people waiting for their 2008 orders down here!

<br />Hopefully not the BR23 or BR39...

And hopefully not the Big Boy! Seeing Big Boys being assembled in the video re Marklin's insolvency gives me some hope! Hopefully it wasn't old video footage!

I think considering the situation, it is the new tooling models (Br 23, 39, Re6/6) that are more at risk from cost cutting exercises.

We can hope that they will only have delayed release rather than cancelled.

Now collecting C-Sine models.

I hope the list of items will be re-issued as if they are in stock when not sell them and get in some cash.

29010 &lt;- 29011
29151 &lt;- 29150
29180 &lt;- 29181
29476 &lt;- 29477
29841 &lt;- 29482
29756 &lt;- 29757

This would make sense, as it seems that the reason for cancelling the new sets was the non-availability of the MS2. I guess this will provide Maerklin with the added opportunity to clear out any remaining inventory of CS at the same time.

Hi Lutz,
Any news or developments on that?

Like Michael in NZ, I am also waiting. I ordered a 37774 diesel train from the Australian dealer, and he is still waiting for news.

I wonder sometimes if insidermodel and BR23 will been produced, because it´s complete new worktoy that costs very expensive.
If not else they have already start massproducing those 2 models...?
