It depends on if you want sound. Newest ones are mfx.Otherewise, you'd be shopping for reliable used or new old stock fx. Old 6090, and 6091,91c have 4 functions.

Hess, As far as I can see on your foto's these decoders are early Delta ones with 4 dipswitches only. These decoders show only lightning when the loc is running like in the old analog days. In case you want the lights always on and don't want sound you can convert these locos with the Märklin decoder 60906, this is a modern decoder without sound suitable for old style fieldcoil motors, see also this topic. These decoders aren not the cheapest but more or less the most simple conversion. Succes, Tony.

Hi Hess,
From what you have said it seems the marklin 60906 decoder would be the best option for you. This will allow you to change the decoder only and re-wire the lights and smoke, then you will get exactly what you want.
Cheers….
Mike

I have used a 60906 decoder in several conversions where I did not (or could not) change the original motor (like vintage steamers, 3015 croc), with great success. Even low speed driving is pretty good with old motors, though not the same as 5-pole replacement. Ben |

Hess
The C80/6080 decoder (old 8 dip-switch delta decoder) has one function (F0) that can be wired up for lights, telex or smoke...
