Does anyone have a better home made controller for the Marklin turntable? The factory controller is junk, I have had to take mine apart 4 or 5 different times after minimal use to readjust the copper contacts. I run mine manually as I have never been able to get railroad and company soft ware to talk to the digital controller on the table. Really, just want something simple and reliable. If you are talking about the 7186 turntable, its "fairly easy" to construct a home made switch with one push button and a toggle switch

Hi Charlie
The 74861 turntable is digital (Motorola, MFX and DCC).
When being used in analogue environment the signal control panel 72760 must be used (your case 1 think).
This unit is mostly electronics
Märklin provides no drawings and you will find none because of German law.
You may get a faulty item from Märklin and they change it under warranty very easily unless you open it. Then the warranty is void.
I don't have this particular item, but I use Märklin items since 1961. They produce high quality product but, true you may get a falty item (rarely)
Are you sure you are not doing something wrong?

The main problem is the slid switch. It tends to flatten out the copper contacts inside the blue box and so the deck won't turn. I have taken this apart several times and very carefully re bent them and the switch works for awhile. The turntable itself is a beautiful piece and I am really happy with it. The controller is junk in my opinion. I am running my layout with Railroad and Co. and for some reason that software just won't connect with the Marklin digital controller. So I figure 99% of the time I would be at the turntable anyway, why not just manually run the table. There has to be a easy way to make a controller for doing this and connect it.

A few points: - the 74861 does not connect to "that software" but to your "Digital controller" (which one it is I don't know). I use now a CS3 after having used a CS2 since 2010 - If you use an MS2, yes you may have to upgrade to a more intelligent Central Station. I think some use those MS2s with a s/w like Rocrail but you need to add some non-Märklin devices - if you can take a picture of your flat sliding contact, may be we can help. Cheers Jean |

Hi If this is indeed a Märklin 7286 controller here is how it should look like when brand new  Notice, there is contact grease to avoid corrosion and wear I never heard someone complaining about this unit Cheers Jean |
