Have you had problems with the ESU steam locomotive BR78, which also emits smoke liquid via cylinders? It doesn´t look good that smoke fluid is getting into the locomotive under the chassis and on the wheels. |

And see what they say about if their product is suitable and how the product performs. https://www.modellbahnprofi.com/(It's the stuff Märklin uses in their cleaning videos.) ESU is a bit vague in their content description of the smoke fluid, so it might be that other products are more "pure" and leaves less residue. but this is up to you and of course at your own "risk". The SR 24 Dampfdestillat is a similar product, but on some youtube videos it seems like it leaves a bit of residue on the boiler when used, so it might have different ingredients....... but in any case, the modellbahnprofi and similar products are basically a cleaner, so if this gets on parts that need to be lubricated, you have to lubricate more often.

Have you checked the MSDS for their product (it must be on their website)? That will tell you the active ingredients.

Have you checked the MSDS for their product (it must be on their website)? That will tell you the active ingredients. yes had a look at the data sheets a while back and ESU uses only the general term " Paraffine (Erdöl) normale C5-20" The Steam & Clean Dampfdestillat list only the more processed/refined narrow range of carbons: C11-C13, (Kohlenwasserstoffe, C11-C13, Isoalkane, < 2 % Aromaten (EG-Nr.: 920-901-0), it also goes under several different names and is apparently also quite commonly used in and car polish and beauty products etc.) that is why it might be something to look into.

I hope Märklin will not follow same step like ESU to produce steam locomotive like with the smoke fluid outside of the cylinders too. Nuts on the tie rods are also affected. |

I agree. I think that feature is cool but too difficult to get right in HO scale, at least so far. I am happy with fewer toys if my locos are reliable and always ready to run. |
Regards,
Jim
I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time. |
