For a while my wife and I were involved in a rail motor preservation group in NSW, Australia. Even if it was somewhat out of place I'd like to have something similar on my small layout - sort of 50's - 60's branch line stuff. I haven't seen anything in my trawling through the limited Marklin stuff I have so would appreciate any suggestions from Marklin stock I might have missed or another compatible manufacturer that would run on digital C Track. I'm basically looking for bogie style diesel railcars for that era. Here's a shot of some of the Society's units at an event - Also, I created these pictures while laid up very ill for a while. Many of these rail motors were used providing passenger and small freight services in Australia's remote outback and the preserved ones are still running today doing many thousands of kilometres each year. 1961. 620 class. 1938. 400 class. 1923. CPH class - also known as "Tin Hares" after the lures used in greyhound racing at that time. And sorry about this one.

Hello Mark, 30760 and 34761 are examples of a bogie type Triebwagen. There were other iterations of these models too, but Märklin do not seem to have any modern releases of these types. The first ones that really come to mind are the so called Schienenbus-Motorwagen. They were (and still are as preserved) ubiquitous in Germany. 39958 or 39978 are a good start for the available latest but you will find many similar on the used market. regards Kimball |
HO Scale - Märklin (ep II-III and VI, C Track, digital) - 2 rail HO (Queensland Australia, UK, USA) - 3 rail OO (English Hornby Dublo) - old clockwork O gauge - Live Steam 90mm (3.1/2 inch) gauge. |

I was also thinking of the Micheline railbus units that Marklin produced a good few years ago.

I'll see if I can find some. I have been told by quite a few ex-rail staff that the fixed 4 wheel type rail motors were never really considered because of the general poor quality of the outback lines and that is also the reason why 4 wheel rolling stock is generally less prevalent in Australia. I have no idea if that is true - perhaps someone can tell us if it is and why.
