Dear Marklin users,

It has been a long time since I posted on this forum, proving the quality of M* loco's
Unfortunately, I now have a brown beloved crocodile that is running crippled....

It has not run very often, just the bi-monthly health runs for 10 minutes.
Yesterday while running on low speed (20-30 km/u) it suddenly started to stutter, jerk while running with 2 small SBB wagons.

After removing the mid-cabin, it appear that the Soft-Sinus flywheel is running OK / constantly
Apperantly, the problem is somewhere with the worm-wheel, the gearbox or....

If I manally support / roll the loc to reposistion the wheels/drivetrain, it tends to run again, but with jerks
when to much speed is applied the Sinus engine seems to 'slip' (and making snoring sound) and the loc stops riding.

Looking at the exploded view, I would like to inspect the worm wheel and remount the Soft-Sinus engine.
Not much detail on the gearing inside the wheel body...the drawing is not very detailed there, so I wonder if it can be inspected/opened.
Soft-Sinus engine is also stuck/tightly mounted. Could not pull it out without excesive force (so I left it for now)


Any idea's how to remove the motor safely?
Any similar expierenes with drive train / worm wheel slipping (or perhaps broken cogs if this would appear plasic)

I love to inspect the wormwheel, but I am curious how much 'force' is needed to pull the SDS out of the drivetrain body.
Maybe I am too carefull to pull it out...or does it need a twist (counter-clock wise)?

This is exactly what happened on my SNCF 40108 ref 39401 built in 2007. The gear was destroyed in no time (loco still brand new while the other gearworm was correct.
This is not a lubrication issue but a manufacturing issue. It was repaired by Märklin / Märklin dealer, free of charge. Now it is in use for 14 years no problem anymore.
I believe that Märklin cannot deliver new SDS motors but probably a gear worm can be obtained. Check with your local Märklin dealer or call Märklin Service

Exctrating the wormgear without damaging the motor may call for special tools (extractors)
Another solution to get a new wormgear is to get a similar size motor (25 to 30€) with a gearworm and swap the gear.
