I love the member meet-ups! Thanks for sharing the images :)
(especially since I'm waiting for that exact land rover which a friend was kind enough to order!) |

The spare wheel on the bonnet is completely flat. Originally Posted by: 5HorizonsRR (especially since I'm waiting for that exact land rover which a friend was kind enough to order!) An L663 an option.

The Perentie would be another option.

Before I left for the deep south of Tasmania, I had managed to lose 5kg. PJ didn't take the photo until he and his lovely FD had filled me full of delicious seafood and the very best of Tasmanian wine. In fact, as I write this post I am sitting at the Rockwell restaurant in Salamanca near the Horbart docks. As we were approaching the restaurant, HMAS Brisbane docked at the port. If that is not a sign..
As to the layout. It is superb and very.much exhibition quality. There is soooooo much detail in the little scenes.
As a small aside, I was working for JRA (Jaguar Rover Australia) when Project Perentie was set up to show the Australian Defence Force the the new six-wheel drive land rover in the early 1980s. It was one of my last jobs before moving into IT in the late 1980's.
Been around I have.. 😊 |

Another Perentie when we came down the Oodnadatta Track in 2019 I'm at the pauper end with a Freelander, nevertheless it is great, we drove Australia's Longest Shortcut west end same year as well as being in Tassie for a month the same year as well. Bought a nice timber bowl at Salamanca.

I am getting a bit off topic, but quite frankly every layout should have at least one Land Rover! That is why I had to build one for my Z gauge layout as there in not a lot available in Z gauge. About 3 days work out of styrene sheet with glazed windows Even my relatives neighbours in Germany have a Land Rover, they have seen the light! For those who are wondering where the Land Rover name Perentie comes from. It is a little Australian lizard up to 2.5 metres length. Can run extremely fast, has claws that will rip you in half in seconds and climbs trees very quickly to eat birds' eggs or birds if easily available on the menu. This Perentie was in Morton National Park near Pigeon House Mountain south of Sydney.

Yep another fascinating way to die in Australia. We are currently stuck in the Hobart airport for 4 hours! Just paid over $7 for 100ml of ice cream! FD just paid $10 coffee. The place looks like a refugee camp as people are lying on the floor waiting for their flight home. Next holiday will be in the car. I am over the poor service from Qantas! |

Absolutely agree with you Indeed I did wonder if xxup knew of my proclivity for them . I now have six Land Rovers on the layout, here are the others : Finally I have this Z scale Land Rover high in the distant hiking hills above the oldtown which contributes to the “forced perspective”. And also some imposters : a MB and a Landcruiser : Have fun, PJ

Nothing has changed. In 1982 had a holiday mostly in Japan then a few days here and there in Asian countries all on other airlines. With my relative from Tassie we had arranged another week in Tassie to recover from our holiday, with a holiday! The cherry blossom in Japan is brilliant. So back home to Sydney in the morning. In the afternoon flew to Hobart for 7 days. Qantas lost the luggage. Got a call one day before I was due to fly back to Sydney, said to them put it back on the plane tomorrow. No apology or anything. Look carefully at week to week, day to day and day or night pricing on the Spirit of Tasmania and you can save a lot. The pointy end is nice with a nicer bathroom.

I've heard great things about life in Japan. I've also heard their culture may be in jeopardy, as young people are not having kids at all hardly. It seems that genrally, globally, economically, that money is becoming more and more difficult for the younger generations., unless they inherit, or are from generational wealth. It seems that if we get ahead a bit, inflation, or catastrophe just eats it away. We priced a first class round trip air fare to Sydney or Melbourne the other day. $7,500.00 U.S. per person. Of course, that includes meals. As winter there approaches, the fares to drop a bit.

Love the 6 land Rovers. Originally Posted by: xxup Yep another fascinating way to die in Australia. On par with your Tassie Tiger Snake, we have seen a few almost outrun us trying to photograph them on Tasmanian roads. We saw an Inland Taipan crossing the road in central Australia. It wanted to be left alone, but the technical term I believe is if you get bitten is that your are stuffed as you are too remote for quick enough hospitalization, and even then it's not good. I think if one visits Snake Valley the result is pretty clear!

This is now the normal service from Qantas. Alan Joyce is offering money to passengers not to complain. |
