Did you not get a manual with your locomotive? Manuals for the latest Marklin items including G1 are available from https://www.maerklin.de/...service/product-database

Insert item number 55725 which is a BR212 and click on Search. Then click on Manual in the list. Hope this is some helpful instructions for your BR213.

Yeah, but the database doesn't have an entry for the catalogue number originally given. It does have an entry for the 55725 though, but it is a subtly different class number.

Unfortunately the loco has been returned to the seller, as it only moved a couple of feet before smoking! I await to see if it can be repaired or money returned but I suspect that the motor burned out.
