Not really a 100% real prototype, but Faller super cult model B-905 has a look-alike 1:1 building in Holland, right next to the A13 freeway at Rotterdam-Overschie, with the same Mercedes star logo on top of the roof. Difficult to photograph, I tried it yesterday from my car while driving at 100 km/h. I think the Faller model received it's spinning Mercedes star in 1970 and in previous years the B-905 kit has no spinning company symbols. Marco |

Nice photo Kweekalot! The MB-star is 100% Faller! But I think the prototype for Faller B-905 is their own factory in Gutenbach, even if it's not an exact copy of that building.

I was blown off my chair today when I found this old picture on FAM of the original Villa in Ambri - Lugano - Switzerland, aka the Villa im Tessin. (As was already often discussed on the forum ... in the early 60s Hermann Faller built a 1:1 copy of this Villa in Gutenbach and in 1961 it came also in the Faller program as the legendary cult model B-271 (till 1984) and has now in September 2016 returned in the program in the classic series as #109271). Wow! Does that villa still exist? I remember being told that countries with heavy snow need a steeply pitched roof so that the snow does not build up on the roof. Perhaps this is in a place where snow does not fall in Switzerland? |

It is perhaps unfortunate that the Facebook site "Faller and Friends" is no longer longer operational. A lot of interesting photos were posted there. The official Faller company site is of course still running.

Hi Thomas, I did submit a photo of the above house to the site, though mine is not as good as that example and I did enjoy visiting it. Hi Bob,
Have you visited the Tessin Villa ? That must have been great. I've never seen your pics on the Faller FB group ... maybe due to my poor eyes.
Marco
BTW, I never said that being the admin of that group is to much for me. |

Thanks Marco, I just LOVE these stories referring to the inspiration for some of their models. Going in reverse, I have often held a dream of building in real life a house based on a model, I think one of my favourites is this one Probably totally impractical for NZ and would need a significant Architect makeover but I still like it |

He is the (now 89 year old) architect that did the architect makeover of the 1:1 Gutenbach FALLER villa in 1961-63 and developed the Faller 1;87 model as well (both after the original design of the Guscetti brothers who made the Tessin Villa). Recently Leopold Messmer signed 25 kits of the Villa in Tessin. These specially signed kits are used for crowdfunding, so a film can be made to show the people and stories behind the houses. Thanks, Fallerfreak. Your picture of the Durer Haus takes me back to many trips to Nurnberg. For those who visit the house and are thirsty, right next to it is the Gastatte Schranke, locally known as "Schlenkerla" where one can consume smoked beer brewed in nearby Bamberg. I used to celebrate my Marklin purchases there with a couple of these regional special beers. Lovely view of the castle and the Tier Gartener Tor.

I may be really, really, stretching the imagination but what think you of this? Just stumbled across these pictures and wondered if Gebr. Faller had something like this in mind for: B-91 and still to this day as 110091 "Hintertupfingen" (Way in the back of beyond, rustic, rural ) https://bahnbauten-h0.blogspot.c...nkt-hintertupfingen.html And this in real life Haltestelle Wieblingen (Heidelberg), built the same year as the first appearance of -91 in the Faller catalog (near the bottom of the page): http://www.s197410804.online.de/ABC/ABCBahnhoefe.htm and this in Zeuthen, built ca. 1870s, which is now part of the megalopolis of Berlin (just SE of Brl-Schönfeld) http://www.zeuthenonline.de/lok...e&artid=2&page=1 Am I "pushing the envelope" a bit? They look plausible, but then the Brothers were quite the imaginative group (perhaps I am just trying to make the shoe fit...) Edited by user 22 November 2020 14:07:01(UTC)

But I wonder why they used the green colour for the brick or block work. Possibly the light weight blocks used in the 1960s were actually green. Kimball |

Or that was the colour they had in the shop... Come to think of it, did Faller make any other bahnhof/haltepunkt green? It has not changed in lo these many years. (Green trim and/or accents yes, but all green?) |

Hi Jimmy,
"Hintertupfingen" is a German description (mostly used in southern Germany) for a fictive, very small, unimportant, and isolated town or village. Some pages show "Timbuktu" as a translation.
For me the model looks like a provisional station which was erected very short after WWII to replace a destroyed building.
Regards
Markus

As an addendum to my post above on the Faller B-94, and I may be stretching the fabric of the thread a bit, but it has a bit of a mirror image look, even if missing the wing roof - so not an exact match, but perhaps an inspiration? (1956) Foto: BD Mainz, Slg. W. Löckel" ("The Schifferstadt Süd stop was only built after the Second World War in the south of the city near the school center. Today, trains on the S-Bahn lines S3 and S4 arrive every half hour in the directions of Ludwigshafen / Mannheim and Speyer / Germersheim. The regional trains of line RB 49 in the direction of Germersheim / Wörth and Ludwigshafen BASF also stop here several times a day during rush hour. (1956) Photo: BD Mainz, Collection W. Nice to keep this thread bumping along now and then, so here's my leap of faith. I doubt it was inspired by this in real life, but then who knows? What I do know is that it does not require much imagination to harmonize the actual, with this model, and although not specifically incorporated into the Faller AMS (Auto-Motor-Sport) range, it would not be difficult to do. Hotel Belvedere in the Furka Pass, Swiss Alps. Faller Model model B-219, and while the kit has the rounded restaurant offset from the main building, a little kit-bashing would soon fix that A google image search on "Faller 219" will give many other examples including the earlier non-plastic original model in a variety of colours and styles, really a delightful model |

This is brilliant! Love to see the work IRL that inspired these classic Faller models. I am wondering if we should make a Second thread where we post some of our old models and see if anyone can find corresponding facsimiles of the model IRL and see what people can manage to find, or might have already found. I have a handful of the factory made stations, somewhat large, and several other models that I find remarkable lovely, especially the ones with the stucco finish. If I had time I wouldnt mind scratch building something like that one day. A Third thread could deal with 3-D printed parts and models made with a CNC Cricut cutter or its family. And I should add, Great job on the celebratory Faller box car! Nice touch. Do you print your own decals then on decal paper? |

Hi Mark5,
I’ve only printed decals a few times, but will probably do so more as I continue to build the kits I’ve acquired over the years and am just now putting together. I agree the Minitrix wagen is a nice item — and the first N scale piece I’ve purchased in almost thirty years. I might consider making one in HO from scratch as a winter project.

The fantastic thing about this forum, is that I can see the cultural places and buildings the kits come from.
Coming from Adelaide in South Australia, there are so few buildings that even begin to resemble those of northern or central Europe, where I have never visited (yet).
It is wonderful to not only see the buildings upon the kits I have were designed, but to see their placement and usage
So thanks for this
I may start looking around Australia for similar styles and post. My Academic understanding of buildings and design is limited almost exclusively to gothic and Victorian England (and thus Victorian Australia - noting many of our older railway stations here are of Victorian design)
so thanks again
cheers Brett

Hello, I'm a friend of "Villa im Tessin" too, since my early Years. No, I'm 64 and build a new H0-Trainmodul with B-271. Last week, I drove back from Italy to Germany from holidays with my car over San Gottardo and suddenly, I saw the villa. The Villa is still impressive to me. It is located in Ambri, Tessin (GOOGLE 46°30'31.9"N 8°41'54.7"E 46.508847, 8.698537)

I believe the B-928 Volksbank was the same molds (it was actually first (1966-76)), although some of the colours may be slightly different, the pieces should fit fairly well. At least it is an option, but may not be any more readily available than the B-910. p. s. I also am of the same mind to make the Hotel taller... I will let you have first dibs though! Ref.:https://www.marklin-users.net/fo...Faller-Modern-Bank-B-928p. p. s. I am open to correction in re the compatibility of B-928 + B-910... Edited by user 11 March 2025 13:59:53(UTC)
