Dear model railroaders, could you please give me your advise?
I have install the 60976 21-pin sound decoder on V-90 37903
I thought that could be easy, just a plug n play
But the decoder when I increase speed getting too hot
The locomotive moving very slow
I checked that the 37903 comes with a sine propulsion system
So I follow the instructions from the decoder manual and I modified the
CV 52 to value 1
CV 56 to value 0
CV 51 to value 0
I also have dowload and install on 60976 decoder (using 60971 decoder programmer) the marklin project from 37909
I think 37909 is same product as my 37903 (plus the factory sound decoder)
Unfortunately, I have the same problem
Decoder getting too hot and the locomotive moves very slow
I would be grateful if anyone knows why and help me about this
Regards to all

Hi Antonis

Your loco has a C sine moteur and a 21 pin decoder interface. See here
With Sine motors, the values in CV 52 must be set to 1, in CV 56 to 0 (see CV table).
Set CV 51 either to 24 or 0.
In addition, you must map Aux 3 and Aux 4 respectively for Status (S) and Running (F) with the Central Station or the
60971 Programmer.
So you did all correctly except maybe the mapping for AUX3 and AUX4 where the documentation is ambiguous
There is also another setting possibility: CV 51, bit 3 = 1 and bit4 = 1 when AUX3 and AUX4 are logic outputs. This converts to 14 and NOT 24 I think

So first move: test briefly after having set CV 51=14

Mapping with a CS2 or CS3: put the loco on the programming track and enter the editing mode
Wait until all parameter are loaded in the CS unit, then press one of the function keys
Here is a CS3 screen on Mapping of outputs
cs3_screenshot_2022_01_09_19_34_45.png
Only make sure that no loco function calls for output 3 or output 4 (AUX3 or AUX4) which could interfere with C Sine functionning.
Note: a hot decoder means important current. This may also happen if your C Sine motor or its drivers are damaged
Sorry I cannot help more
Jean

Do note that the 37909 is not a Soft Drive motor like your 37903 so just loading the project is not enough. You will need to set it up for Soft drive after loading the project.

But I cannot understand why the decoder is getting hot, that certainly shouldn't happen. I suspect you haven't followed the advice given in the Notes for CV52
Quote:

Selection of a motor type for additional settings for motor feedback
control.
or
Selection of additional function
outputs on an H0 decoder.
See extra table1 for how motor
outputs work as additional auxiliary
functions.

I think the note 1 should refer to the document noted with an asterisk in the footnotes. I suspect that 0 for CV51 is incorrect, and you should have Aux3 and Aux4 turned on to drive the Softsine motor.

Thanks a lot JohnjeanB
I will try this (AUX3 & 4) asap
Best Regards
