Thanks, it's an interesting video but that one links to a defective copy, the sound cuts out at 7:00 for some time. I have a copy on my channel with full audio - enjoy  The thumbnail I have used is from the 1963 Werbehilfen (Publicity Aids) catalogue where the actual film is a listed item that the dealers could purchase. The film was listed as item # 18 630. In the English version of that catalogue, the title is "Of Great Renown, In Great Demand" (only a very poor image sorry, better than nothing until a better scan comes my way) In Swedish, it is "Berömd och begärlig" (almost sounds a mix of Germanic & Gaelic) From the 1963 sales catalogue "Reklamhjälp"  And Spanish - "Cèlebre y deseado" (from 1964 sales catalogue "Ayuda propagandistica")
 The actual film however was only available with German narration. Sub-titles would have been nice. If I had a translation of the narration I could probably add a sub-title file From the German Werbehilfen  Edited by user 09 September 2021 23:04:31(UTC)

No, none of that stuff - there's plenty of V200 / BR220 / BR221 models with sound and lights and bells and whistles and mfx.
I'm talking about a good old fashioned solid 3021 analog loco preferably in a 1960's blue box as shown in the video.
And yes, I do have the 30210 loco.

There is something about the older 3021s that stirs the innards  This 3021 would be about the third Märklin loco I acquired when starting out in 1983 (I was a "slow-starter"). I note on this great forum that there are members who have a dozen or so 3021's, many very much older than mine and bearing testimony to those members' delight in this Märklin model. I later converted mine to digital with the old 6080 around 1996. I love its steady grinding stamina  :  As you say, whilst there are later derivatives , it is the legend. I more recently gained this 220 and converted it to a 5-pole motor and digital with an ESU Lokpilot :    In the past I was further enamoured of the original V200 on reading more about it in this this publication :  which had an informative section about the V200. A few samples :     So, my dear old 3021 has now come to the top of my waiting list for a 5-pole motor/ESU Lokpilot conversion ! Regards, Philip

Thank you, Åke and Steven, for sharing this amazing video ! This is truly Märklin manufacturing quality at its very best. And yes, this is what I grew up with playing hours on end in the early 60s. I just couldn't get tired of it, and I simply became addicted to the wonderful world of Märklin from that time onwards !
Hey David... I too have the replica #30210 to commemorate 75 years of Märklin HO ! Isn't it simply magic just holding this classic locomotive in your hands ?

when the lady paints the stripe down the length of the V200, did she use a paintbrush with long bristles or what? One long stroke and its done.
It looks like the groove on the loco guides the wet brush... |

I knew our former retired postmaster's wife. She was from Ulm. They married in germany when he was staioned there in the 1950's. Her girl friend worked at Marklin as a a machinist.

I also have a 3121 blue box set set......  ....And a 3021  As well as the aforementioned 30210   Total number of V200 / BR220 - 9 including 7 H0, 1 G1 and 1 Z.

I have a couple of the Primex ones. They have different road numbers.
I don't know how many different road numbers Marklin produced between the Marklin and Primex product lines, but it would make an interesting study of kolls ...

Boy is that a trip of nostalgia. It is amazing how many processes in the production were largely automated, and then finally at the end the loco gets a 'gepruft' tag with an initial on it. Don't see that these days though ...

German engineering, German quality; that's why they cost so much. There has to be a tremendous investment in the machines used to produce Marklin. I would expect to see all that machinery in an automotive plant, but all that for a model train.

Surely Ron! Automotive stamping machinery is way larger though. Today more investment is in the engineering, as robotics, computer design, etc. Most of the giant machinery has been moved to Mexico, etc. for part and component manufacturing. Our assembly plants use more robots now than people. However, many have retired, and some are hiring.

Additionally, my grandfather was a tool maker, and a houroligist as a hobby. He sent a small drill bit with a hole drilled into its shank to a colleague in Germany, proud of t. The man from Germany sent a smaller one back with a hole drilled in it!!
