How would you rate the functions of the Marklin Ardelt Steam crane?

Hi
I don't have the crane but I have seen plenty of videos and the real thing.
In my opinion, the crane is superbly built with loads of sound, light and smoke fonctions.
The big restriction is on the rotation speed of the cabin. Way too fast.
The "Klaxon" seems a bit toy-like.

I have the Goliath crane and the speed is much closer to reality (sorry poor quality video
Look at 1:10 into the video

compared to this

Just my opinion but still the Ardelt Dampfkran is just great (I wish I had one)
Cheers
Jean

I like it, and have the 49570. and it has the same digital functions as 49571. (you can operate it on an old 6021 but its a bit tricky)

you can find more information about the 49570 and some issues here https://www.marklin-user...a-3-Behelfspersonenwagen

Nice German videos with English text.

Oh, so great! I have the first issue Goliath, but have yet to operate it with my CS3. Pricey little novelties! So the newer ones are mfx? Do they have world of operation cab driver functions?

yes the 49554 has World of Operation, you can download the manual from Märklin: https://static.maerklin.de/damcontent/3a/df/3adf376e318e4e32f6c946876f0ffb191464365855.pdf

Thanks for the prompt replies. The thread posted by bph with the recommended thread was very informative. Considering the number of problems listed I'm uncertain about buying the crane. If a decision is made to purchase it a request will be made of the dealer to test it.

I have also a 49570 and had seen, that Märklin now are selling nearly the same under 49571 !

Can anybody explain why they issued a new one ?

Asking, because my Ardelt suddenly after a short circuet started to move !
Best regards

Hi
My cristal ball is no better than yours. I suspect it is a second production run with a different- more recent era- Era.
This is probably the result of the first one being a good seller and by making some changes, some wealthy collectors will buy both versions

Nothing to do with your crane starting to move after a short circuit.
I have quite a range of digital Märklin locos and some recent ones 2017 and after, sometimes have an initialisation problem and one sound or the motor can be activated -sometimes full speed. I don't know why.
Cheers
Jean

The newer crane has a new road number and styled in era 4. Also it comes with a weight for the main hook lowering down to prevent hook cable untangling.

It is an intricate but also delicate design. My first crane boom arm does not rotate freely and causes derailment on curves and turnouts. It was exchanged. The second crane hook stop working after a while. Dead decoder and was repaired at factory. It is very difficult to fix the cable if it gets untangled. Goliath open air design lets you access the cable easily to fix problems.
