Can anyone tell me the difference between coupler 72020 and 72021?

And when I order the marklin E115737:20 pack do I get the 72020 or the 72021 coupler or something different?

Thanks

The couplings in all the packs are the same, the difference is in the other parts supplied.

Ok so the e115737:20 is basically only the couplers in a pack of 20. Good but

The definition I see is
72020: Each package has 2 current-conducting close couplers and the hardware for the current transmission to convert a car.
And
72021: close couplers for standard coupler pockets with contacts, 2 sets of contacts for the coupler shafts, 1 ground spring for the truck, 2 wires for connections, and instructions are included

Altough the words are different, they seem to me to describe the same hardware especially since they sell for the same price. « Harware for the current transmission » is basically what I think is described in more details in the 72021 description????

If you are converting a coach that does not need a pickup shoe or grounding spring then you would use the 72020 set (e.g. a 40503 cab coach), but if the coach doesn't have a pick up shoe or grounding spring then you use the 72021 set. Also the wires that come with the 72021 set (at the top of marklins picture) are what you need to connect to 73400 or 73401 lighting kits. Personally i would suggest you always use the 72021 kit.

Not that you probably don't need the brass plates they supply in the kits for most current production coaches. The plates are about a half millimeter narrower than the ones fitted to the coaches and will not latch into place if you try and use them.

The strange pair of black pieces that are pictured in the 72020 set are to make push-on connections to the brass plates at each end of the coach from the light fitting.

The grounding springs are also available as a 5 pack catalogue number 72050 (it is worth getting some as I fit them to both bogies on each coach to minimise light blinking through grounding problems). In the instructions you will note an instruction to trim the legs of the grounding spring, and I recommend you do this on the end of the bogie that is adjacent to the coupling.

There is also a grounding spring with shorter legs available as spare part E210240 for a 5 pack, and the contact springs for the coupler shafts are available as E239830 for a 10 pack.

The coupler shaft with coupling pocket that takes the contact spring is available as E214980 for a 2 pack.
There is a shorter coupling shaft that has given problems in the past, but I don't know its part number. See here for problems that people have had when it is incorrectly fitted at the factory.
