I would like to prototypically represent a parallel track in C-track and also stations. The plastic ballasting of the C-track does not do the job and, in real life as in most well made lay-outs, the space is filled and then ballasted. Since ballast is quite expensive, I assume underneat there is a "filler". I was thinking about using styrofoam sheets, paint the top earth tones and then glue the ballast on top.

Is this the best way to go?

Styrofoam sheets is definitely a way to do it, but it is also possible to use cardboard. We used both methods on our company layout https://www.marklin-users.net/fo...ault.aspx?g=posts&t=8681.

You've definately got the right idea Mario, the tricky part is geting the right grade of ballast to match the plastic, and blending it in smoothly so you don't have the typical plastic to ballast seem.

Cheers....

Try Busch No. 7069. Matches the track very well.

This highly illustrated thread at Stummi's shows some other fine examples of how to ballast C-track:

I use cardboard to fill the space up to the level of the track, and then ballast, but I can't remember which one right now. I can look it up when I get home. It's a good match for C Track

This is how it turns out.

That is the best I've seen with C track so far. It would be nice to see it in the flesh.

Not really, sorry. I tend to prefer to photograph my layout from "eye level". I'll try to take a photo from above and post it as soon as i have some time.
