Hello,
Could anybody let me have a copy of the english instructions for this model please?
The thing that bothers me is they are quite old now and with outside frames knowing how to change the traction tyres is best not done by removing every screw until it comes apart. I don't mind that approach with a maxi wagon but this is a lot more challenging. Where to lubricate would be handy too.
My one is missing a buffer, crew, smoke oil and alternative couplings but in very good condition, it only cost about a third of a truly mint one.
Which means I can repair it for pennies and then enjoy running it in the garden.
Experience has shown it is important to look after the larger models more carefully than you can get away with in HO.
Steel axles in brass bearings will seize if not looked after, then the motor is damaged, the decoder fried and a world of pain begins. Luckily with a Maxi 140.

Here's a scan of the Gauge 1 55530 (Tristan) manual.  55530_Manual.pdf (5,794kb) downloaded 116 time(s).As you can see, it's typically minimalist Märklin publication. This model was a special, made in small numbers, and has never been reissued. You may be able to see that the manual has been updated and corrected by the factory, (literally) by cutting and pasting small pieces of paper onto the pages. Graham, I'm not sure that any Märklin Gauge 1 locos have traction tyres. Tristan certainly doesn't. I hope this gives you what you need. There was no other documentation provided with this loco. Thank-you, I've attached a picture of my wheels with traction tyres. So not only did Marklin commission them in Korea (I remember the proud parents using it in publicity and possibly for backdoor sales) in a small batch but they have differences as well. I suspect replacement tyres might have to be a very careful infill with a suitable latex. I'll keep it out the sun and pray meanwhile.  You are right about the group, it is a lifesaver for cruising Fleabay and then beating elderly bargains into life. Do you power up your loco? Marklin make the ingredients for a sound file to fit a MSD3 decoder and there is lots of room to piggyback the existing decoder in the tender and locate the speaker underneath to add the bells and whistles (and injectors, coal shoveling etc). Even a Bavarian anthem if you find an MP3 online. Bizarrely they don't offer it as a download but as you hunt around the sound library they are all there. Graham

Yes, I can apply power to the train in my display case. Not for running, though, just for the lights.
I've done lots of decoder upgrades, but I think I will leave this loco in original condition!

You can buy replacement 1 Gauge traction tyres - I got a couple of packs a few years ago. They are clear rather than black rubber like the H0 ones.

They are not mentioned in the instructions for the loco, or in any catalogue entry I have found for a Gauge 1 model. Every H0 loco item description mentions tyres. How are you supposed to know what the part numbers are? I have all the sizes of H0 tyres in stock, but I don’t know any numbers for Gauge 1. I’ve just found that 591500 is the number for tyres for my Class 44, but only by looking in the exploded diagram. The catalogue or product description does not mention that the loco has tyres. Very odd, and totally inconsistent across the different gauges! Nigel |

Yes, I have E519500 for my BR44 and E47100 which I think are for my V200 loco.

And 47529/475290 for the Crocodile (5756 in my case).
I wonder if there’s a comprehensive list somewhere?
It seems that some of these are out of production, which isn’t great for people who run these locos.

Thank you for all your research!
I have ordered some of the 591500 from eBay, as that is the simplest for getting them sent to the UK.
It seems as though these are compatible with the crocodile, and I have no understanding of the Märklin policy or strategy on this or the part numbering convention. The H0 technique seems so rational in comparison!
Thanks for your help with this. I have also bought some other sizes that fit with some other G1 locos that I have (not that I have many of them), so I will have a small stock of various tyres.
